There’s many way and ideas as to why professionalism is important in the nursing field, not to mention the entire healthcare field. These ideas range from patient care to teamwork. But for this short essay I’m going to focus on three topics that, I believe, have the greatest impact on patients, co-workers, and the functionality of a healthcare setting. First, attendance and punctuality is crucial for nurses for the effectiveness of patient care. Second, honesty and integrity should be the hallmark trait of any healthcare worker. Lastly, communication among co-workers, patients, and patient families. Attendance and punctuality is fairly self-explanatory but why is it important to for a healthcare setting? Arriving for all of you scheduled shifts and arriving on time, preferably 5-10 minutes for healthcare workers, ensures that you are a dependable and professional nurse. This allows for an appropriate amount of time to receive report from the previous shift about patient condition, discharges, and admits. Patient care is the utmost priority to nurses and with quick and effective reporting allows the patients to get more focused care, increasing the speed of their recovery. …show more content…

A simple order of Cetaphil BID for dry legs may seem mundane and ineffective use of time, some nurses may overlook it or delegate it to a CNA. But a nurse who follows through on the order themselves shows dependability, again, and that the nurse is invested in this patient’s wellbeing, appearance, condition, and progression to better health. Now delegating the task to a CAN doesn’t mean the nurse is not invested but doing it themselves shows they care enough to make sure it’s done
