Recommended: What is academic writing and its characteristics

Waltzing Around in Underwear
As Patricia Fuller said, "Writing without revising is the literary equivalent of waltzing gaily out of the house in your underwear." This quote perfectly describes my essays because my rough drafts are not even close to being fully "dressed" and ready for public display. With many personal improvements and good editing skills, I am able to make my essays publicly acceptable. Even though, I struggle with writing rough drafts and straying away from the prompt, I am able to revise my writing easily, and greatly improved my writing throughout the past couple years due to my past teachers; all together I believe that I am prepared for college English 101.

My first big writing experience was in A.P World History my sophomore year. In this class we had to write many essays about history and we only had a limited time to do this. Throughout that class it helped me become a better writer because if I wanted to get a good grade, I had to become more proficient when I was writing and use the right details and resources. Learning to be more proficient in my writing has prepared me for college english, because if I take an excessive amount of time to write a paper I will fall behind in my courses and I will be late on deadlines.. Also, in my sophomore year I had my English class where we learned how to write mel-con paragraphs, which really assisted me by getting the right sources into my essays and document them correctly. In both of these classes I had to use quotes or evidence out of other sources. Consequently they helped me learn to use the right documentation, either paraphrasing or quotations, and they taught me how to cite my sources correctly. Learning how to use quotes correctly and cite them correctly has prepared me for college English and my future courses because it will give me a more credible edge on my future essays. Learning how to do this will also help me avoid plagiarising others people work. These teachers and classes have greatly assisted me get to where I am today, and get me prepared

    For me, being a college writer means writing well-organized essays that readers enjoy reading. Being a well rounded writer was also important. Each unit in this class challenged me to write in a well-organized, concise way. During each unit, we conducted some sort of revision activity where I was exposed to other students’ writing. As I read their work, I picked up on their use of transition words and separation of paragraphs to make the essay flow. Naturally, I began implementing more transition words in my own work and learned the appropriate ways to split paragraphs. This helped me to identify the main points, brainstorm and figure out what additional research I would need to find to support my argument.
