Throughout my life I have always been involved with my family. Being the oldest of five kids, gave me a large load of responsibility. Whenever I helped my family members or cared for them, there was a sense of satisfaction and joy that I felt. So, knowing that I enjoyed caring for them, it felt as though a career in nursing was suitable for me. The major career I’m interested is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. They are professional registered nurse with clinical experience in neonatal nursing and also received formal education with supervised clinical experience. This type of nurse involve in the management of sick new-borns and their families. NNP’s concern is to those new-borns that requires special cared due to low birth weight, respiratory distress, congenital heart defects or various other abnormalities and disorders.
When I am older I would love to be a Nurse Practitioner, I enjoy helping people when they are sick and taking care of them. Another reason I want to be a Nurse Practitioner is because my sister is also a Nurse Practitioner.

Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are four attributes that define an excellent student. Being in high school, it’s difficult at times to be a leader, show your character, and be involved with voluntary services while being focused on scholarship, but I have managed to do all four numerous times. My interest in nursing began at age 18 at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut where I was trained as a Certified Care Partner, then as a Phlebotomist, followed by a two year surgical floor assignment and a one year burn unit stint.
1. How will you contribute to the mission of the NURSE Corps Scholarship Program in providing care to underserved communities? Born in a developing African country where the health care delivery system is generally less than ideal, I have had a first-hand experience of the healthcare disparities that often characterize underserved communities. There is a remarkable irony that comes to light in most underserved communities, and that is that most major causes of diseases are either preventable or treatable with basic health care delivery. I find the most pressing problem of such communities is that of public enlightenment.
All my life I have always wanted to be a nurse. Since I was younger I can recall playing with stethocopes. I have four siblings so my parents paying for my education has never been an option for me. That having said I became a Medical Assistant. Becoming a medical assistant has been a great blessing in my life. I have been able to work with patients, while going to school but I am ready to further my education. I want to be able to provide patients with medications, IV's, and many other skills that will put my full knowledge to use. I think that nursing is a great profession because it is a job that is in demand. Nurses can work anywhere ranging from clinics, hospitals, schools, and even jails. I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is my ideal profession. In nursing, I can provide others with the care and the knowledge they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I can also give others the love and attention they need to be proud of the life they live. I think that society is very vulnerable and I want to make great contributions to the world of nursing. Additionally, friends and family have always encouraged me to study nursing. Throughout my life, people have commented on my caring nature and suggested nursing would be a perfect career for me. I agree, as I enjoy caring for others, whether they are a friend or a stranger. Therefore, nursing for individuals would bring joy to me. A final factor that influenced my decision is the understanding I will gain of the anatomy and physiology of the human body.
Nursing excellence is defined in various ways. I believe that nursing excellence is demonstrated when nurses are involved in promoting holistic patient centered care, quality and innovation, education, evidence-based practice, and nursing research. Nursing organizations plays a pivotal role in promoting nursing excellence. For this discussion post, I will be discussing the role of two organizations; the National League of Nursing (NLN) and the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN), in promoting nursing excellence and nursing practice.
My reasons for selecting a career in nursing stem directly from my desire to help our prospering population and community. This career appeals to me because it embodies what I strive to become, a person of influence, a guide, a respected adult, a mentor, and a person that can be trusted and looked up to with great passion.
