My Philosophy of Nursing

I became a nurse because I wanted to find a stable and fulfilling career. I started out, as a License Vocational Nurse to see if being a nurse was what I really wanted to be. I found that I enjoyed taking care of patients and being a part of a team that makes people feel better. I went back to school and became a registered nurse because I wanted to be more involved with my patients care and make a difference. Nursing is about having a positive attitude to help and accepting help from others when needed and making a difference in others lives.

Philosophy: Getting Personal I could begin by saying that I choose nursing to help people, but then I would be following behind the other million people who say they chose nursing for the same reason. Even though I want to help people, I chose nursing because I wanted to inspire, to teach, to learn, and to make an impact on my patients, their families and also in society. I will not say nursing was always my first choice, but I ultimately choose nursing because nurses not only care, but they also volunteer despite their busy schedules, are constantly learning, and are always giving back to the community. The cliché for choosing a career in health care is a need to help people, but I wanted to do so much more than just help people. I want to make an impact on someone’s life.

on. This a Nursing Career I choose nursing as a career is because I was a certified nurse assistant and I loved to help the residents, I enjoy caring for others. What stopped me for caring for others was my kidney disease. I could not care for others, because I needed someone to care for me. Consequently, this is why I am so passionate about helping others, because I know at first hand, what it feels like to be on the other side.

For these reasons alone and my own personal values I chose the nursing profession., as well as to care for others who are unable to care for themselves. I feel that in this profession, you must have compassion and care for your patients as a whole. For the simple fact as you may not just be caring for a patient’s health needs but their emotional wellbeing as well. I personally live my life through the “golden rule” that all people should all be treated equally and you should always treat them the way you would like to be treated. This is a value I was taught at a very early age and I continue to live by it to this day.

This paper explores my personal nursing philosophy that I plan to bring into my nursing career. I believe the nature of nursing is grounded in a commitment to the community and the desire to help those in need. Nursing is more than treating the sick; rather it is being part of the happiest moments in a patient’s life like being there for the birth of a baby. Likewise, it is being there at the other end of the spectrum at the lowest moment, such as a patient nearing death. I want my philosophy for nursing to incorporate the knowledge of I have learned from school while being able to combine it with relational and compassionate care that will give respect and dignity to all my patients.

An Accurate View on the World of Nursing This paper is going to reflect my thoughts on nursing as a profession and why I think the different aspects of nursing are so important. The purpose of the content in this paper is to give the reader a straightforward view on nursing and the different components of what makes up a nurse. I will do this through analyzing the theory of nursing created by theorist Jean Watson. Her ideas about nursing and mine flow so well together and the similarities are noted throughout the paper. Personal Philosophy Nursing is one of the most amazing professions there is because it offers so much opportunity in one’s life.

I always strive to make others around me feel blessed and feel like they are more than just any person – stranger or friend. I feel most fulfilled when I am serving and caring for others, and my personal nursing attitude is one that is centered on compassion and service. My philosophy of nursing incorporates the knowledge of medicine while combining it with compassionate caring that respects each patient. I believe each patient should feel empowered in his or her right to choose and make decisions for their own health satisfaction. This may not be a traditional health plan, but that is what makes each of us unique.

Becoming a nurse practitioner will grant me the autonomy of leading the care of my patients while simultaneously have the ability to seek out the guidance of the physicians when needed. I will be able to broaden my scope of medical practice while still applying my principles of nursing to patient care. I want to be the best skilled, most competent and empathetic nurse simply because I want to bring the safest and highest quality of care to my patients. More often than not, patients voice out that no one listens to them, not even their own doctors. This concern further inspires me to become a nurse practitioner that will provide quality care by understanding my patient as a person.

Professional Nursing Paper Becoming a professional nurse certainly does not happen overnight. To be a nurse, one must develop skills, attributes, values and standards that will not only carry over into their daily practice, but also into the relationships that one builds with their patients and coworkers. Today, nurses that poses these qualities help to ensure the best possible physical, emotional, social, and spiritual care that they can give to patients. Not only do they lift the spirits of these patients up, but they also provide an empowering environment for the families as well. Without nurses, the world of healthcare would be a very different place.

The American Nurses Association defines nursing as, “Nursing is a profession within the health care sector focused on the care of individuals, families, and communities so they may attain, maintain, or recover optimal health and quality of life.” I strongly believe I was born for the nursing profession. Caring for others has been embedded in my soul. Over the years I have ignored my calling and pursued Accounting, but my inner soul would not allowed me to continue in this profession. I love to interact with people and providing a helping hand to those in need as always brought some form of gratification to my life. My decision to become a nurse was greatly influenced by my beautiful mother.
