Hello and welcome to my nursing portfolio. I am pleased to share with you my nursing background, schooling, and career achievement as well as my plans for the future. My professional nursing career includes direct patient care in a variety of areas that includes: cardiac, medical-surgical, oncology, orthopedic, urology, and neurology. I started as an orthopedic nurse in 1997 with an associate degree in nursing. I spent the next fourteen years in a variety of departments within the healthcare field. For many years I have been in the role as preceptor for many nursing students, as well as new graduate nurses and new hires. After deciding to return to school to expand my knowledge, I completed my Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2014. Along with my role as a nurse on a cardiac medical-surgical floor, I teach nursing students for both colleges (University of Florida and Santa Fe College) in Gainesville Florida. I enjoy teaching students and nurses, and in August 2016, I will have completed my Master of Science in Nursing with Emphasis in Nursing Education degree from Grand Canyon University. This is why I believe nursing is the heart of healthcare. I feel that being a nurse is one of the most demanding professions in the world that involves dedication and commitment as well as the most rewarding job. This journey has allowed me to grow as a human being as well as form bonds with other professionals, patients, family, and students. Nursing will always be my passion and excited to impart this knowledge to others. With this knowledge, I will utilize effective teaching strategies to educate the next generation of nurses so they will be prepared for the complexity of today’s healthcare environment.
