My First Experience In English

Taking English class during summer is not my first experience; however, reading and writing stuff such as poetries, Shakespeare, and novel are all my first experience. For me, taking classes in the summer is not a difficulty, it just means things will go faster, and the amount of works will increase.
Still clearly remember the first day of class. Professor, you are very honest and humorous. You tell us that you are teaching in this summer because you have to pay rent, you keep telling us that there has two doors in the classroom, we can leave or drop the class whenever we want. While writing the essay, I often struggle with the deeper meaning behind the reading that I have to write about. Most importantly, the biggest problem in the process of writing the essay is I often do not know how to combine my ideas and sentences together, which is the grammar error of sentence structure. As an ESL student, English is not my first language; as a result, no matter in writing or reading, I always have to pay more attention and efforts than the native students, especially in this class because it is all about literature. Additionally, I always struggle with the deeper meaning behind the reading; as a result, I will read them for several times and write down things that I want to talk about in the space. However, although I have write down all the main ideas, I always have a hard time to combine them together in the correct order. Meanwhile, I often can write down what I want to say in my own language and have the idea in the mind; nevertheless, I can not translate them directly into English, which makes me feel very depressive and …show more content…

When I want to say the poet has used a hyperbole in this line, I do not know the word “hyperbole,” as a result, I will write it as “the poet has used an exaggerated language in this line.” The terminology in English writing is different from my language, which makes me have a hard time to explain my perspective and thoughts toward the poem. Besides, the third essay, which is about writing a short story. This essay has given a very difficult time and pressure. The short story I chose is easy to understand. I clearly know how the villagers have transformed the drowned man into a mythical figure and how the villagers transform their compassion toward the drowned man into something that they desire.
