Summer Term Reflection Paper
As I look back on the beginning of my journey to a better career and life I can remember the weeks and months leading up to the first day of class. I remember visiting the college and speaking with an advisor to decide exactly what it was I wanted to do, and the steps it would take for me to reach my goals. I recall talking with the advisor about the requirements for my General Education credits as well my need to take a preparatory class for algebra because I scored to low on the placement exam to be allowed to take the full college level math. Along with the preparatory math class my advisor told me that I needed to take “Foundations for College Success”, which I questioned. My advisor explained that the course would lay a solid foundation for me to build my college expectations and learning on by explaining what to expect from college as well as how to handle some of the out of the ordinary roadblocks that college life would undoubtedly throw my way. I remember thinking as probably most all new students do “I don’t need this” or “This is just a filler class, it can’t possibly show me anything I don’t already know”, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. As I near the end of my time in the Foundations for College Success course I can truly say I am glad I was required to take the course as it provided me with an invaluable wealth of knowledge that will help me throughout the rest of my journey.
As I try to recall all that I learned from this course and convey that information to you I will no doubt leave something out. I would like to start by saying that any omission isn’t from lack of importance, but more so a tough decision on what to put into this paper from the massive amount of information l...

...udy habits, and awesome test taking strategies. I also learned about creative thinking and how it applies to everyday life, as well as active reading as it helps with college level reading. Another thing that I learned a lot about was what exactly what my professors expect of me, and how to decipher what is actually being requested of me in a writing assignment. I also learned how to avoid plagiarism and retain my academic integrity.
In a nutshell, what I thought or expected from this class before attending was ultimately trumped by the skills and information I obtained in the course. I have thoroughly enjoyed every day of class and can truly say that my only regret in your course is that it has to end. I know that not all courses will go as this one has, I know that not all professors will teach their courses the way you have. However, I can still dream can’t I?
I have studied English since I was a grade seven, but the curriculum in my middle school and high school years, mainly focuses on reading and speaking components of language skills, with a little focus on writing. As a result, I never felt confident with any piece that I was asked to write. Writing has been a hurdle for me to succeed in college since most of the courses in college requires one or the other way writing skill. Consequently, I have decided to work on my writing skills, and have started working on it; even before, I started taking this English 101 class. I used to use a various educational material which I thought might help me to meet my writing goal. Some of the materials which I was using includes: TOEFL educational materials, You Tube resources, and various novels. All of these resources have helped me to polish my writing skills. Furthermore, after I started taking this class, I have learned to enjoy writing. I have made it a point to communicate my own thoughts and feelings as opposed to simply summarize the thoughts of famous writers and authors before me. This class builds up my confidence in my own writing and for that I am highly appreciative.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
In COL 101 I have learned many new things about college. Since this is my first semester at college I did not really know where everything was. This class really helped me to learn new things about myself, including what resources are available to me, what my plan for the future is, and the many changes I have endured during this course.
In America, we have such a diverse society. We are made up of people from every country, and thousands of different origins. Every man and women experience this society in a different way, and some experiences are better than others. Every race also experiences it differently. Through this class, we examined these differences, and the downsides, that come with living in this society. There were so many ways this class affected my life on an academic, professional and personal level. It has caused me to think differently in some ways and in others, it enforced the ways that I was thinking prior to this class, and has changed the way I see aspects of the world.
The liberal arts are becoming increasingly rare in schools and universities. However, Saint Catherine University makes it a priority to teach its students the core benefits to the liberal arts college. It requires students to take the course “The Reflective Woman” along with “Global Search for Justice” as an introduction and conclusion to a liberal arts education. Throughout this semester I became more knowledgeable on what the liberal arts truly are, honed my reflective judgment, developed my writing skills, and I now have a deeper and defined sense of self.
College success has become a most desirable goal. However, many students struggle through college. In fact, according to the Website Ask.com, approximately 15 percent of college students receive a degree. Because I’m willing to earn a degree like many other successful students, I find that college is the stepping stone to my dream goals. I know that college is difficult, but I realize that attaining my dream of a college education will require me to understand the benefits of what I’m learning, to prepare for obstacles, to seek advice, and to create effective and reasonable strategies will help me achieve my goals.
The class is only 6 weeks of content, so I realize that the time is limited and one must focus on the big-ticket items. I won’t wish for other content to replace what we learned, but given another week or two, I would have loved to have learned more about the implementation step, for which you stated we would not have time.
I liked how you were able to change the status indicator of how well you knew the material on each question, that made it easier to score point and not lose as many when you got it wrong. I also liked that after getting five consecutive questions in a row right that it started giving you bonus points for it. Also if you got five wrong in a row that it would tell you to take a break and come back later after a certain amount of time so you could gather your thoughts a bit. All of the PowerPoints and mini games and quizzes located throughout each module really helped me and definitely broadened my understanding of everything throughout the semester. What lessons that I will take with me is that everything has a bigger meaning in the world. There is more that goes into society than we know and it makes me want to think deeper about how it all works. Each person and group plays a role in society and there are so many aspects about each one that it is never the same, which is insane. After this course I will be able to analyze patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and culture better, which I think is important especially when you are an active member of society and just in
This week, my group took our campaign for patient contentment to the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Since this hospital is religion affiliated, we decided to sing christian songs for the children. It was utterly amazing to see the looks on the kids faces who were filled with excitement as we sung with them and just spent quality time with them. A worker who was watching came up to us afterwards and gave us her upmost gratitude for coming to visit because it had made her day. We learned from our research that we cannot come off intimidating or look boring, so we kept our happy faces on for the time there; though it was really hard not to smile at the children. We got to know some of the children, how they got
High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. It has revealed and exposed my true colors, both good and bad, and as a result, has built many aspects of my character. My experiences at Alameda High school and Alameda Community Learning Center have shaped me into the person that I am today.
The group project turned to be an amazing first time experience for me on working as a member of a team for organizing an event. I find it safe to say that it would not have been possible if I were on my own. Each effort from the individual group member made it possible to create an event that I could never imagine at the start of the project. Through this project I have learned what actually working in a group is and how amazing things can happen if many hands and heads are working together. This project taught me about how someone whom you cannot expect anything from can turn about to impress you the most. Of course every project has a tough part to deal with and we faced ours too. One of the hardest parts in this
My experience so far at my site was going well, I am getting to know some of the clients and reading more information as it relates to some of the activities they like participating in during the week. So far during my practicum, I got to observe staff do group with the client and learn how to do the room checks that happen everyone. I got a chance to talk with some of the clients; this gave me the excellent insight into their lives and some of the main things they care about overall, I also got to here form the group about what their future is going to be as it relates to getting discharged construct the diversion facility. The way I will move forward as it relates to my career is developing
One of the most important ways in which this class provided a beneficial learning experience is the fact that as a student it gave me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge by being able to properly do research, document that information, As wells as bringing my message in an informative, answer-driven format by broadening my communicational skills.
Writing a reflection and a summary of dozens of experiences is very challenging and demanding. I cannot count how many ups I had, yet I cannot deny the fact that I had some downs where I could transform them to ups. The year was full of challenges, excitement, fear and lessons. Each Wednesday I had mixed emotions. Every time I came to school I had the same fear and heartbreaks. In my reflection I am willing to compare between Adan at the beginning of the year and new Adan I became.
Education is man’s most valuable possession: it is the concept through which one’s love for learning stems, and the equipment used to pave an individual’s path to success. Although easily influenced by the opinions of others, education is one of the few concepts that neither internal nor external stress can strip from our being. The future of our society lies in the hands of our educators; the values and morals instilled by such figures govern the actions of the earth’s people.
