Article: Pain assessment and management in surgical nursing: a literature review
· What is the primary question or issue the researcher(s) are investigating?
The researchers looked at the issue of postoperative pain assessment and management. With gathered information they have observed that more and more patients are leaving health facilities without their pain needs being met and has now become a common occurrence. They analyzed the barriers affecting healthcare professionals and how these barriers could lead to errors thus causing patients to experience postoperative pain.

Barriers such as time or even the lack of staff adds weight to nurses and may cause inefficient standards of practice. Their rigorous duties throughout the day can affect the quality of care they give to each patient.

In this article nursing was presented as an art. When dealing with pain assessment one must observe their patient, listening to the need, feelings, while analyzing their expressions and interactions. This article focused on their beliefs and attitudes when dealing with pain management and assessment. It didn’t go into the scientific aspects of each patient and what they were going through or how each nurse dealt with them using scientific tools of medicines. It looked at the influence of outside factors and how simple obstacles could affect sufficient practice such as a patients anxieties of fears.
