The researchers looked at the issue of postoperative pain assessment and management. With gathered information they have observed that more and more patients are leaving health facilities without their pain needs being met and has now become a common occurrence. They analyzed the barriers affecting healthcare professionals and how these barriers could lead to errors thus causing patients to experience postoperative pain.

Barriers such as time or even the lack of staff adds weight to nurses and may cause inefficient standards of practice. Their rigorous duties throughout the day can affect the quality of care they give to each patient.

In this article nursing was presented as an art. When dealing with pain assessment one must observe their patient, listening to the need, feelings, while analyzing their expressions and interactions. This article focused on their beliefs and attitudes when dealing with pain management and assessment. It didn’t go into the scientific aspects of each patient and what they were going through or how each nurse dealt with them using scientific tools of medicines. It looked at the influence of outside factors and how simple obstacles could affect sufficient practice such as a patients anxieties of fears.

We will examine patient-centered care by defining chronic pain and identifying the shared culture of this patient subpopulation. Findings. Pain has many different meanings to many people. What is important to know as a nurse or health care provider is that pain is what the patient says it is. It is not the nurse or provider’s place to determine what the patient’s pain is but rather take an in-depth history and assessment. Using this assessment and history can therefore help treat your patient’s pain accordingly. Also pain theories have been proposed and used the implications of nursing practice in regard to pain.
This essay will aim to look at the main principles of cancer pain management on an acute medical ward in a hospital setting. These articles have many similarities when discussing the issue of staffing shortages. For patients, their loved ones and the general population, they don’t understand the ramifications and strain that staffing shortages have on nurses. Based on the definition of nursing and the training of nurses, it is convincing enough to make the conclusion that nursing is both a science and an art. Since it is a medical profession, which requires heavy input from the study of biology, chemistry and physics, it qualifies to be termed a science.
