Why students choose nursing school and how that

correlates with personal reasoning.

It is believed that nursing students choose the nursing profession because they have a family member or a person who is close to them who is in the healthcare profession, motivating from work-related reasonings and they have “an altruistic desire to help others” (Angus. Jan E. Hall, Linda. Peter, Elizabeth. Price, Sherri Lynn). Only one of these reasons are similar to my personal reasonings as to why I chose to become a nurse. Many students choose nursing school because of family members or people who are close to them that are in the healthcare profession (Andersen, Molly. 2013). In the article, one of the first lines states “For some of our students, the decision to pursue a career in nursing was easy. Some come from a family of nurses” (Andersen, Molly. 2013). Not only is this one of the main reasons, behind why students go into nursing, from the literature but I have heard it several times from fellow nursing students. Whether it is heating up a heating bag for someone with a minor ache or disinfecting a cut and finishing it off with some polysporin and a bandage. I like to try my very best to help people within the knowledge I have within reason. Recently a situation occurred at my house where the altruistic mindset just naturally came in. My dog has developed arthritis and was unable to get up on his bed. My sister, who is in nursing school as well, and I immediately rushed over to him and performed a lift.
