During school years, I volunteered in classroom and day care setting to get the chance to work with children of different ages and learn how they play and interact with peers and adults. As I started college course, I was required to observe and record data in different age groups. This was not a problem for me due to all of my hours of volunteering during days off or holiday breaks. I enjoyed getting to spend hours in different classrooms and observe the child. It helped me gain a sense of the teacher I wanted to become. After I applied or a teacher assistant position at SPIN, I was able to practice my years of experience, observing and working with children. I work in a classroom that allows me to communicate directly with the children and families on a daily basis as well as work with my co-teacher. I have the chance to set goals, hold meetings and get to know the children and how they behave. I am able to connect with parents and families in order to help the child progress in their development. I like the idea of “Ages and Stages” and assess if children are developing appropriately. These are great ways to advocate for children. Continuing to understand their family and community differences can have a great impact on your ability as well as their development.
