Jean Watson 's Theory of Human Caring Jean Watson 's "Theory of Human Caring" opens the mind to view nursing as more than just a job, but rather a connection from one person to another. As nurses it 's easy to relate one 's healing to medicine and technology, but we also need to remember that love and caring also promote inner healing. Watson 's theory has really broadened my views of nursing. As a nurse, we need to remember our actions of caring and love towards our patients makes a difference in their healing process. Being a true nurse cannot fully be reached without the use of caring. The major concepts of Watson 's (2005) original "Theory of Human Caring," include: Ten carative factors, transpersonal caring relationship, caring moment/caring occasion, and
Love and caring are in relation with one another in the power of healing among self and others that continue beyond ourselves to nature and the universe. Dr. Watson stated (2005), " It is when we include caring and love in our work and in our life that we discover and affirm that nursing, like teaching, is more than just a job; it is also a life-giving and life-receiving career for a lifetime of growth and learning" (Parker, Watson, 2005, p. 297). "Carative factors" are as defined by Watson (2005) as being the "aspects of nursing that potentiate therapeutic healing process and relationship…they affect the one caring and the one being cared for" (Parker, Watson, 2005, p.297). The ten carative factors include (2005):
1. Embrace altruistic values and Practice loving kindness with self and others.
2. Instill faith and hope and honor
