Reflection On The Foundations Of Academic Writing

Before I enrolled in composition my writing was limited to what I learned in high school and in the Foundations of Academic Writing 1 and 2. Firstly, my writing and sense of writing has drastically changed since the beginning of the semester. My writing has changed for the better in several different dimensions; for instance, my research, creativity, grammar, and essay structure have all improved. Secondly, my reading has also improved in several different aspects; for example, I have learned to scan and skim the text for the important material to save time while researching. Furthermore, I have improved my reading speed and note taking abilities throughout the semester. Thirdly, I have learned not to procrastinate, although I am stating the obvious, this is something that most people do repeatedly and I have learned that it is best to complete or begin assignments as soon as they are assigned.
My writing and sense of writing, as stated before, have improved immensely. To begin with, my research capabilities have improved. Through the completion of the research packet and article, I developed my research capabilities further. My topic of choice, the negative effects of violence in video games on teens, was also interesting to research so I was able to get good sources and legitimate studies that proved my position on the topic. The few changes I did have to make was solely related to the structure of the essay, since in some places it sounded a bit choppy. So I had to rearrange the second and first paragraph of my essay. Additionally, I asked one of my friends to edit my editorial for me. Also, my editorial was edited by my peers in class.
