Who’s to say that William Shakespeare actually wrote his plays, sonnets, and poems? Many come to the conclusion that Shakespeare’s use of language and his way with words are too advanced for his time. But, I have proof that says otherwise. Join me on a journey to discover the secrets and life of William Shakespeare. The average ninth grader in America could tell you they know who William Shakespeare is. How? This is because he has a huge effect on how we perceive literature today. William Shakespeare’s creativity with words has affected everything from love, poetry, history, fantasy, tragedy, comedy, and magic. He wrote his plays with the common man in mind. All around, Shakespeare wrote a total of 21 plays. Usually the scenery for his plays was limited to painted cloths, and necessary chairs and tables. Shakespeare did not appreciate it when his lines were paraphrased or thrown out there for people to say with no exaggeration and emotion. William Shakespeare did not joke around when it came to his plays and the actors preforming (Schoenbaum 72). Many people do not know that Shakespeare lived a double life. He was known as a famous play write in London. But, back home in Stradford he was just a well-known businessman and property owner. During his life he became a very wealthy man. He was a brilliant business man who formed a joint stock company with his actors (Schoenbaum 34). Shakespeare was a genius who changed literature. He wished for the general public to see and enjoy theatre rather than just the rich and royalty. This shows Shakespeare was not a selfish man. He changed the way people saw theatre. Shakespeare’s effect on literature comes from the fact that he did not attend school past elementary. This means he didn’t have a wide spread vocabulary. While writing his plays, it was hard to not have a widespread vocabulary. This is why he started to invent his own words or use existing words in a new context.
