I will also include an overview of the role of a Nursing Home Administrator, the educational requirements, any personality traits and skills required for this professional role, how those traits line up with this profession and areas I will need to address. Also, I will include a summary of my career goals and explain how Kaplan University career service center can assist me with obtaining my career goals. Finally, I will state where I see myself in 5 years.

Communication is very important because you will have to absorb and interpret large amounts of important information to your staff such as policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Leadership skills are a must for managing practitioners because they are tasked with finding creative solutions, and developing the staff. Integrity is a must because who wants to follow a person that doesn’t tell the truth. Plus, integrity will set a great reputation being that you are responsible for providing health care needs for your patients. A nursing home administrator should be able to lead by example, be flexible and able to adjust to situations as they may arise, be compassionate and have a calm presence. It is important that a nursing home administrator have the trait to recognize when a staff or resident needs emotionally intelligent (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2016-17). While it is important that all these traits and skills need to be supported by maturity, humility and teamwork. I myself will have to work on being more aware of my staff and resident’s needs.
