Post-it notes are used by nearly everyone: mums, men, and children. People even write articles about Post-it notes. Michael Leddy wrote an article about Post-it notes suggesting 20 ways of how students can use this product (Leddy, M., n.d.).
Social media sites play a major role as marketing channels. Facebook is the largest social media site. Therefore, Facebook is best suited for a promotional campaign of Post-it. In addition, Facebook’s user numbers steadily increase. Whereas Facebook had 1.4 million users in the beginning of 2015, user numbers increased to nearly 1.6 million users at the end of the same year (Statista, 2016). By posting videos, YouTube can reach better to customers. Social media is a new way of getting in contact with existing and potential consumers. Most consumers research a product online to find reviews before the purchase. After the purchase consumers go online to find instructions concerning the maintenance and the repair of a product. Videos are mostly preferred and easier to understand. This is one of the reasons why the number of YouTube users increases. While YouTube had 163.5 million users in the US in 2013, the number of users is expected to increase to 187.8 million users in 2019 (Statista, 2016). Post-it can use nearly every social media marketing strategy to promote its products. Creation of interactive blogs could be a possible social media marketing strategy for Post-it. A brand blog could be used to engage customers by asking how Post-it notes can be used and how consumers feel about Post-it notes generally. Since the product is not an extraordinary product with high growing potential, blogs of individuals speaking about Post-it notes is unlikely to happen.
Consumer-generated reviews on the company’s website informs potential consumers about the product. Reviews give potential consumers information about how the brand is perceived and the level of quality of the product. Consumer-generated reviews work like word-of-mouth endorsements. Word-of-mouth endorsements always have more impact than claims of the company.
Viral marketing is essential for Post-it to increase brand awareness. Furthermore, viral marketing can be the result of the “Go ahead” campaign where people showed creative ways to use Post-it notes.
