Sentimental Women Need Not Apply: Movie Analysis

Although the nursing profession has emerged tremendously since the 19th centuries and many great accomplishments and changes has taken placed over the years, however there were presented issues from the film “Sentimental Women Need Not Apply” that were striking to me as they are still very relevant in both the nursing field and in our society.
Presented issues such as lack of nursing opportunities for nursing graduates, lack of respect for the nursing profession and nurses being viewed as a threat by doctors continues to be of an existence today. As a nurse, I feel that it is of high importance to highlight these presented issues from the film not only because they were the most outstanding to me but because the nursing profession needs more

Often time, nurses has been viewed by patients, their family members and the medical team as basic emotional care givers, pill crushers or cart pullers and not as healthcare professionals who are more interesting in health promotion, disease prevention and better patient outcomes. They also often forget the emotional, physical, mental, and caring part that is involved with the profession. And to make matters worse, nurses are continued to be viewed as a threat by doctors more than ever before especially with the opening of Nurse Practitioners programs.
I firmly believe that it is imperative for us (nurses and nursing students) to promote the nursing profession in a very positive and professional way and rid of any stigma that may hinder nurses from being viewed by society or the medical team as less than competent or emotional individuals. Overall, I enjoyed the film as it was very informative and captivating, and may we (nurses and nursing students) continue to uplift nursing as a profession by contributing many more outstanding accomplishments to
