Writing has always been a difficult subject for me to tackle throughout my education. I enjoy writing academic essays and rhetorically analyzing in research papers but not personal narratives of any sort. In this class, there was a combination of both, which helped me to continue to grow as a writer. During this semester, I have learned several valuable things in this class and gained a lot of knowledge to use in future academic classes. From different styles of writing, how to analyze images, MLA format, rhetorical analysis, and structuring my writing to an online audience. Even though this class initially seemed to be a difficult task, going through the entire semester beginning to end has helped make writing a more achievable challenge. …show more content…
There were many different techniques and devices; I used to achieve the goal of each essay. My first goal is to read and take notes on the chapter and trying to understand the concept on my own. Second is to listen during lecture and reviewing examples given of how to start my paper. Third is making sure to ask questions if I did not understand how to proceed. All of these ways were the answer to having successful papers this semester. These steps were critical in my writing process; I was able to use these concepts to create a stable flow in my writing. Previously, in my high school classes I would just start writing and then go back to rearrange my essays but in college that would not work out. With the help of my instructor, Ms. Perkins she helped me gain a flow of writing and structure. I planned out all four of my essays before I started to write them, and I think using that process made it much easier for me to …show more content…
I wrote rhetorically for the first time, put my writing online, and gain a new understanding of writing. Of course, I learned about MLA format and citing, which is more important than it seems to be. Also, realized that my writing performance can be improved immensely based on spending more time on my assignments. As well as my grammar, general flow, and the maturity of my writing enhanced thanks to this class. The main reason I became a better writer was because my teacher. Ms. Perkins was one of the reasons why I did well this semester in English. She would always tailor her class to whatever I would need to be successful. She taught what was needed to have a strong base to my writing that was to draft, revise, edit and proofread. Also, she focused on grammar and format
Over the past year I have grown as both a person and a writer. My writing has improved
As an incoming freshman in an enrolled in a writing course, but still in high school, I believe there are many aspects for me to learn from this course. Learning to become a better writer, achieving higher quality, and improvement of a great flow is what I want to achieve from this class in my future writing career. Being a high school student, I acknowledge that I am filled with more weaknesses rather than strength, but the knowledge that I had been educated for this class is pretty impressive as well. In addition the classes previous to this class set me up to a better fundamental to succeeded in this class and were emphasized the power of writing in my future career as well.
Over the course of this class I feel like I have become a much better writer. When I go back and look at some of my Journal entries and assignments that I did at the beginning of the semester, I can’t help but tense up at some of the things I wrote. Sometimes the things I was writing didn’t flow well, or I might have even have missed glaring grammar mistakes.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
When I scheduled the class Persuasive Communications, I had no particular interest in the subject matter; I just needed to finish the general education requirement for a second writing course. It fit my schedule and sounded reasonably interesting, but I did not think I would gain much from it. It was a general education class after all, and would not be very high on my priority list. Now that the semester is almost over and the class work is complete (albeit after this paper), I feel as if I gained a lot from this class. The class’s main objective was to expand our skills as writers, but it served in teaching us many other things that hold value in our education and future careers.
The topic of what happens to those that have, "never heard the good news of Jesus Christ" weighs extremely heavy on my heart. I work with Atheist, Muslim, Hindu and Pluralist in the technology field. Frequently I am attacked just for being a Christian. For a while it was scary to know that I have become a minority in my own country. Some how each time I am attacked I love these guys that much more. My Hindu friend really knew nothing about Jesus before he met me. At lunch one day he asked me about Christianity and I was able to share with him the good news. But for some reason he rebeled and believes the Bible is, "the greatest book of fiction ever created." If not for the revelation God provided about His Word in my second year of Bible school, I probably would be a pluralist myself. I really want everyone I share Jesus with to go to heaven and it use to be tempting to think God might make an exception. However, there is only
I recently realized how this class has benefited me as a person. I can clearly assert my opinions now. I know what to say, when to say it, and how to say it. This class changed my perspective on writing for the best. My writing skills are not the only things that have changed. I also learned how to read closely.
I have always known that writing was not my strong point. Entering writing 101 in September I was very much afraid. I knew that the expectations would be very high for this course; thus it would be more difficult than any other writing class I had previously taken. At first writing was a nightmare for me, but thanks to the assistance from professor Smart and my tutors, I have improved drastically in my writing skills and, as a result I am now a better writer. During the course of four months, I have learned so much. There were a few bumps in the way throughout the semester, but I managed to overcome them. It is hard to believe that my journey in writing 101 is coming to an end. Through my hard work and dedication, this class has helped me to build confidence in my writing that will help me throughout my college life.
Coming into college, I always considered English (writing in particular) to be my most challenging class. I never really enjoyed reading or writing and would only do so if I had to for a class. Other than that, I never had the motivation to read or write in my spare time. After this first semester, I have gained an appreciation for writing and put a lot of effort into each essay I wrote. I noticed that each essay got easier for me to write and I got better grades each time. I adopted a new writing practice that works for me and the simple fact that I enjoyed what I was writing about has made me a better writer.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
During the semester of English Composition II, I have learned how to make an argumentative writing and include comparisons within my works to make it more logical. The aspect of understanding more comprehendible forms of writing will help me in y future to better myself and my work. The papers I write, and the forms in which is the most proper and beneficial. Although, I have struggled with my writing, I have learned valuable contexts to incorporate for my future.
When this class first started, I had a different perspective of what a good writer should implement in their work. At first, I believed that the quantity of the words that I wrote carried more weight than the quality of my words. During my time in this class, I would focus on getting my ideas down rather than organizing my writing into to explain concrete topics and ideas. With the knowledge I have acquired in this class, I have learned to how to organize my essays, how to watch out for grammar errors, and how to improve one the shortcomings of my writing.
Coming into this class at the beginning, I thought that it was going to be a breeze, especially since writing was my strong point in high school. Not only was I wrong, but I struggled a whole lot more than I ever thought I would. As the semester progressed, I was able to find ways to make my writing more enjoyable to read by gaining the ability to clearly state my point.
I have learn so much in this class, that is actually amazing to think that I have learn more in a semester than what I learnt with my passed teacher in my four years of high school. My learning journey started with first day of English class. I’m so glad to that I was able be in this class that was so rich with information, not only English related information but also life related information, from I’ve learnt a lot over the course. My professor, Jennifer Lee, did an amazing job incorporating so many different topics to the class. I came to this class feeling unsure about my overall writing skills but I’ve learnt how to do descriptive essays, research, citations, MLA format, multi-paragraph essay, etc.
