Nursing in other words, caring for sick people is really a challenging job. The health care professionals who wholeheartedly care for the people are becoming less as they are not ready to accept the challenge, but to just to do it as part of their job. This attitude is the one make the philosophy of nursing different for everyone. Philosophy of nursing is the contribution of one’s own personal, cultural and spiritual values. Each individual develops a personal philosophy to give meaning to experiences and to guide behavior and attitudes. This essay provides an overview of ethics, values and concepts and how they affect my obligation to practice and also discusses regarding the ethical dilemmas in nursing.

In critical situations, nurses have to have a sense of mind to do what is right and good for the patients.Morals are one’s own beliefs which are socially acceptable and right. There are different situations in a nurses’ life where their morals are being questioned. (Example: improper behavior or a wrong treatment.) Moral courage is something to be cultivated to act according to one’s ethical beliefs when action is required. Ethics is considered as a bigger platform. It is a stable level of values, which is used to solve ethical dilemmas in an individually acceptable manner. Nursing ethics are set of principles which direct the caregivers to follow the practice of nursing in a professional way. In all ethical dilemmas every nurse has an obligation to protect the privacy and confidentiality of a patient. What constitutes to ethical behavior is determined by societal or cultural norms. What constitutes moral behavior is up to the individual to decide based on his own sense of right and wrong.
Morals and philosophy of a nurse should always be her confidence in any situation. As a nurse, I don’t allow my morals and philosophy to have a conflict of obligations in nursing or if I have stressful situations, it deals with cognitive thinking and by following ethical principles and policies of the facility I work.
