Exploring Career Paths: From Job Shadowing to Ranch Management

My senior project is very different than what my job shadowing experience entailed and what my future career plans are. In this paper I discuss what I did for my work experience/job shadow, researched an interesting topic that is related to my future career plan, and lastly what I did for my senior project. My work experience helped me decide on what I want to do as a career choice. It made my decision a lot easier. I enjoy working with cows and horses, and through my work experience I got to work with cows and learn how to take care of them and give them vaccinations. For my future career plan I want to work in an occupation where I can handle cattle and horses. My plan is to work on a ranch managing the cattle and hopefully one day be a ranch manager or run and own a ranch of my own. My work experience helped me with making my decision final as well as teaching me some techniques to care for cattle. Through my work experience I learned some new ideas about my future job plan. One of my job shadows was with Dr. Terrence McCoy. A veterinarian in Island City. We went to the sale yard and Bangs vaccinated heifers, semen tested bulls, and pregnancy-checked cows. The third day was probably the most fun because we played a few games like dodgeball and sharks and minnows. Even though it was only a two and a half day camp, I feel that I learned a lot and was able to help all the other kids learn a lot too. It felt really fulfilling knowing that I was helping keep the sport of wrestling interesting in the hearts of younger kids. Wrestling is a dying sport that is not as recognized as it used to be so being able to teach the youth and interest them in the sport make me feel really good. I felt really good about being able to help the other students learn more about wrestling especially since there were first time wrestlers
