I have always wondered what my future career would be.I experienced many things during my days in school and at home.My experiences helped me realize that I should become an animal caretaker.Becoming an animal caretaker would mean that I could spend my time working and interacting with animals.I would need to be able to care for living creatures,have the right education,and withstand the disadvantages. To begin with, I need to be able to take care of any non-farm animal for this career. While watching over them, I have to check for any signs of injury, such as disease and other illnesses. As I have progressed through this class, my already strong interest in animal ethics has grown substantially. The animal narratives that we have read for this course and their discussion have prompted me to think more deeply about mankind’s treatment of our fellow animals, including how my actions impact Earth’s countless other creatures. It is all too easy to separate one’s ethical perspective and personal philosophy from one’s actions, and so after coming to the conclusion that meat was not something that was worth killing for to me, I became a vegetarian. The trigger for this change (one that I had attempted before, I might add) was in the many stories of animal narratives and their inseparable discussion of the morality in how we treat animals. I will discuss the messages and lessons that the readings have presented on animal ethics, particularly in The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Dead Body and the Living Brain, Rachel in Love, My Friend the Pig, and It Was a Different Day When They Killed the Pig. These stories are particularly relevant to the topic of animal ethics and what constitutes moral treatment of animals, each carrying important lessons on different facets the vast subject of animal ethics.
Social researchers, psychological researchers and criminological researchers alike have all applied the MacDonald triad theory to explain violent crime against humans. The triad theory simply uses three main variables, enuresis, pyromania, and animal cruelty during childhood to explain aggression that graduates to violent crimes against humans in adulthood. This research only looks at methods of animal cruelty used, and age of onset abuse. By identifying animal cruelty in childhood and adolescent children findings can be used as an indicator of adult violence and in turn develop the grounds for intervention and prevention. This research is replicated from studies done primarily by Hensley and Tallichet. In the early 1990’s Hensley and Tallichet researched and examined different aspects of animal cruelty and wrote several articles based on the same sample taken from inmates surveyed at both a medium and maximum security prisons in a southern state. According to Tallichet & Hensley (2008), the assertion that youthful animal abusers graduate to later aggression against humans, known as the “graduation hypothesis,” has become more commonly accepted by clinicians, social scientist, law enforcement, and animal advocates alike.
Animal abuse is currently happening everywhere in this world, and this can only stop if everyone acknowledges and stands up for what is right. However, the cause of animal abuse can lead to so many questions asked in our society through the secondary data analysis that the questions will then be answered. In fact, conflict theory will be the one applied to the abuse of animals. Lastly, a hypothetical mean of collecting primary data on animal abuse can then be answered. To put it briefly, this research paper is focusing on why family professionals can no longer ignore violence towards animals, the feminism and treatment of animals, and animal liberation and rights, to examine the causes that lead to animal abuse when animal abuse is being announced.
While I was doing my preceptorship, it was like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before. The lead Veterinary technician, Nicole gave me a wonderful tour of the building. Right before the tour she said that every day at 9:45am they have a little huddle with each department. During this huddle, each department shares what they have going on today, who is going to have a walkie talkie on them today, and who is going to be where. On the tour she explained to me how many different programs they do with all the animals. Also they don’t just work with dogs and cats. They have dogs, cats, pocket pets, and also birds. Going to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley was an awesome experience. First of all this place was huge. They have several different boarding rooms for all kinds of different animals.
What is animal cruelty? Why do animals mean so much to most people? Animal cruelty is when someone hurts an animal or does not care for an animal responsibly, like not giving a dog or cat food and water. It's against the law to abuse animals but they don't have a punishment harsh enough for anybody that does that. Most cases of animal abuse is never reported and represented in most rural and urban areas. Animals mean so much to most people because most people would consider a pet more of a friend than just an animal. I’m against animal abuse, and I really think there should be a harsher penalty.
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way in which its animals are treated.” (Gandhi). Sadly it seems that there is much to be desired from America. Over the past few years there has been an increase in animal abuse, sadly numerous cases go unreported and unrecognized. It is estimated by the HSUS that every year nearly one million animals are abused or killed with connections of domestic violence. From this growing issue, it is seen that humans have power over animals.
When I was growing up and always playing with animals, I realized what I might want to do with my life. Since animals are, for the most part, vulnerable and helpless, they need someone to take care of them. For animals in need to survive and carry on, there must be a caring person willing to take time out of their day to care for these animals. This person is responsible for providing care such as feeding, cleaning, giving water and administering medication to animals in veterinary offices, zoos, laboratories or animal hospitals. This person is called a veterinary assistant (Writer).
Should animals have to go through pain and suffering? Should they have to go without food and/or water? The answer is no. Animal abuse happens everyday and it happens because people are barbarous or because they don’t know how to take the best care of an animal that they have. Whatever the reason it’s still not right and will never be okay. This paper will cover a brief history of animal abuse, the statistics, the signs of animal abuse, and what can be done to stop animal abuse. Animal abuse needs to end for the animals that can’t speak for themselves.
After Mr. Jones and his men kept neglecting the animals, the animals decide to take matters in their own hands. One day when Jones’ men forget to feed the animals, the cows break of their stables and get food. Jones sees this and comes out with his men with whips. They try to tame the animals, but fail when all the animals fight back, tired of the neglect and harm. They run the men off the property, which leads to a celebration and seven commandments. Everyone agrees that no animal should ever take man vices.
In Animal Care and Services you will be required to give food and water to animals; Clean equipment and the living spaces of animals, monitor animals and record details of their diet, physical condition, and behavior, examine animals for signs of illness or injury, exercise animals, and attend to other grooming needs. Animal care and service workers train, feed, groom, and exercise animals. They also clean, disinfect, and repair animal cages. They play with the animals, provide companionship, and observe, any behavioral changes that could indicate illness or injury, There are different types of services provided such as nonfarm animal caretakers, groomers, animal keepers and kennel attendants. Nonfarm animal caretakers typically work with animals in animal shelters or rescue leagues. All caretakers attend to the basic needs of animals, but experienced caretakers may have more responsibilities, such as helping to vaccinate or euthanize animals under the direction of a Veterinarian. Caretakers also may have administrative jobs such as keeping records, answering questions from the public, educating visitors about pet health, and
When looking at an animal what do you see? Are you able to feel their pain, happiness, or doubts? Spending time at my local animal shelter opened my eyes to the emotions these animals were feeling. Being kept in a cage not knowing where you are and that you are not with your family is scary. What do we expect these animals to do besides sit in the corner and cower? Not only was I able to connect on such an emotional level with them but I felt I was able to show them a little love as well.
My Career The career field I chose is to be a firefighter. The reason why I want to be a firefighter is because they help people and prevent fires from spreading. I’ve always wanted to help people everywhere, because I don’t like it whenever there is an accident and some people die and lose their loved ones, people talking crap about them and just talking and pointing the cameras in their face watching them cry. I want to help people and make a difference and help protect people’s lives, and be someone people recognize when I walk by them.
Animal Cruelty has many forms, many reasons and most importantly many victims. It is a growing problem in today’s society. Many people may wonder why people abuse animals. The thought is simple, however the answer is a little more complex, there are three main types of animal cruelty. The three reasons are as follows: unintentional, intentional, and cruel intentions. I will discuss each one in more detail.
I entered the center completely unprepared for the level of education and hard work that the center demanded, but thrived knowing that I was helping heal animals in peril (many of whom were there directly because of human actions). After many hours of feeding, cage cleaning, and handling dangerous patients, I felt as though I had learned as much from the animals as I had my teachers. However, I also found myself frustrated more often than not when I found a limit to my ability to aid animals. There is no worse feeling than knowing that an animal urgently needs care that you are unable to provide. This feeling encouraged me to further my education in animal care, so that I can be the best caretaker possible for animals in
“Ignorance is bliss.” Often times we hear that saying but never truly stop to think of its validity. Think of all the things we as mankind are unaware of. Obviously, there are a number of issues out there that people do not want society to know about. But when it really comes down to it, there isn’t much out there that we wouldn’t be able to learn about, if we really wanted to. Specifically pertaining to controversial or questionable public topics, the information is available to give people the options of learning more about them and forming opinions. This is where the saying “ignorance is bliss” comes in to play. How much do we as society really want to know? How curious are we to figure out just what animals go through when they are used to test toxins or cut up for coats? These are just two of many scenarios out there that animals suffer through but our society fails to acknowledge. We don’t focus on the negative aspects of these issues and others, because we are too dependent on the benefits that come from them.
