This essay focuses on Jonathan Harris, Jonathan is a teacher at Herron High School, also, he is the vice president and academic advanced choir director. He defines leadership as the ability to adapt the settings that everyone feels empowered to contribute creatively to solving problems. Leadership means leaders with limited capacity to do something through talent and skill. Talent is natural ability and skill is proficiency gained through training and experience. Talent certainly helps, but it isn’t required. There are many people whose natural leadership ability was close to zero, but through training, experience, and most of all, persistence, they became great leaders. Leadership is adaptive, meaning that the leader can adjust. A leader who fails to adjust to the territory will lose their way. Its only fools someone who is lost (Hackman, …show more content…

I chose Jonathan Harris because he is a leader who has been able to grow through the ranks, humble, and who has been successful in his career as the Vice President of Herron High School. He is also able to learn through mistakes and brought the school to high levels of discipline and academic success. To be successful in an institution one must foster teamwork and being able to recognize the efforts, however little from the team you lead. Some of the important principles of leadership include; being technically proficient, that is, knowing your job well and having a solid familiarity with your employees’ job. Setting the example is another principle whereby one is required to lead as a role model (Tannenbaum, Schmidt, 1973).
