Nursing Practice, Research and Theory: Pulling It All Together
This paper discusses the concepts in nursing as they are related to nursing practice, research and theory. They are interdependent upon each other and help to create the ever changing, growing and improvement in the discipline of nursing. This paper will also discuss Florence Nightingale and the relevance of her work today. She developed the conceptualization of nursing through her practice, gathering statistics and writings. Without intentionally developing it, she formulated theories, research and practices that helped provide the foundation for the modern nursing profession (George, 2011).

Once the patient met the criteria for “rule out sepsis”, then the ED care team took to initiate Advanced Treatment Protocols (ATP’s). As part of the early alert system, we relocated one of our Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) assignments to the front registration desk in the lobby. There, they greeted the patient, asked for their chief complaint, and after the patient was registered into the EMR, the EMT transferred the patient to the triage area to obtain a full set of vital signs. If the vital signs fell within the prescribed EMR criteria, a warning prompted on the screen. The EMT overhead announced “Code Stroke in Rm #”.
