Hawaii has a diverse culture where it is expressed through art, music, language, dance, theater, cuisine, film, and multiple festivals. Its culture and traditions reflect the land’s beauty. Hula is the traditional dance of Hawaii and is rooted to the religion of the natives that live there. It was believed it a god or goddess who performed the first hula and because of that, the dance is considered as a sacred ritual more than a form of entertainment. Ancient Hawaiian folk music were used for a multitude of purposes, a few examples would be to give praise to the gods and goddesses or telling mythological stories. Prior to The music was often accompanied with festivals, games, and other events.

Hawaii has numerous myths and legends. Some of which were stories told in Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand, and islands across the Pacific Ocean. There were Hawaiian gods like Kane, father of living creatures, Ku, God of war, Kanaloa, god of the underworld and teacher or magic. These myths and legends were passed down from generation to generation in the form of chants and stories. One Ancient Hawaiian folklore would be the Night Marchers. According the the legend, night marchers were ghost of ancient warriors. They can be found in areas that had once used to be large battlefields. They are drawn to the sun kissed, grass skirt bearing women, the artifacts that the media likes to deem as ‘cursed’ or ‘bring good luck’ in films, the chants and songs that are sung that are much different to the usual music you would hear in the mainland or anywhere else.
