I have been studying English for a couple of years, and for sure, I am much better speaker and writer now than I used to be 3 years ago. I am aware that I still have a long way to become fluent, and even though when I acquire fluency, English will continue being my second language. It has been challenging to advance each level, and so far, the hardest skill to improve is the writing part because the grammar structure and the sound of some words are completely different from my native language. Take writing class, for example English 101, certainly helps a lot to move one-step ahead, and that is what happened this semester. Grammar, short vocabulary, poor critical thinking are some examples of barriers that I faced this semester to express my thoughts. I know I am able to do much better than I am doing now, but because I do not have naturalness in English, as I have in my native language, sometimes sentences that I write do not have a natural meaning. Short vocabulary, in my opinion, is the hardest and longest skill to acquire among the weak points I have. The other two aspects (grammar and critical thinking) are not easy as well, however, to increase my vocabulary list takes long time. Human beings does not learn hundreds of news words every day, because it is cumulative, or in other words, if I learn fifth new words today, it means that tomorrow I will have a hundred, and the day after a hundred fifth, and so on. It is necessary incorporate new words in a daily base, in a way that they will sound natural the next time I face them in either a text or a speech. The poor critical thinking covers the grammar skills since to construct a clear and objective sentence I need these two elements. The order of the words in a sentence is essential to the meaning and because I am not able to catch all the details, some sentences are meaningless.
