Nowadays, advertisement play an important role as it give specific information about the products to be sell to consumers whether on television, in newspaper and other medium. Based on Oxford dictionary, advertisement can be define as a notice, picture or film or movie telling people about a product, job or service. It is an example of something that shows its good qualities and making it public. As we know, children are innocent and highly targeted in the marketing industry. Basically, marketing industry or advertisers will use tricks that can attract the younger children to established brand name preference. Advertisement mostly shown on the television display unrealistic action where the advertisers use the stunt man to do the dangerous action. This kind of action will lead to something dangerous to the children because most of the time children will copy the action exactly the same like in the advertisement. For example, displaying person flying after drinking the product due to the energy obtain from the drink. As we know, children are easy to be influenced. The marketing industry has figured out how to use cartoon characters to get children hooked on their products. For example, Spongebob on pop - tarts, Shrek on Twinkies, Dora on band – aids and more. It is not just cute cartoon characters that the food industries uses to get children hooked on their products. It is a lots of other things that they are doing. In fact, the marketing industry itself says that they spend about 2 billion dollars every year in marketing directly to children (Frost, 2013). So, the industry knows that marketing to children totally works. Children are bombarded on television, so just turn off the television or just do not expose children to television. But it is not that simple. Junk food marketing to children has now become nearly impossible to avoid because so much of it is happening outside of a parent’s control and beyond their reach. So, in my opinion, people all over the countries must put pressure on policy makers and on companies to protect children from these dangerous marketing tactics. For example, the State of Maine was the first to pass a state-wide ban on marketing junk food in schools (Anna, 2013). It is also very important for parents to teach children the value of money. The children should be educated on the difference between 'needs' and 'wants'. Teaching the children how to be critical of advertisement by picking the flaws in every unrealistic commercial broadcast is very important. In this way, the child will not get influenced very easily by advertisements. We must standing up taller, speaking out louder and joining with campaigns that are happening across the country like Campaign for Commercial-free Childhood which has successfully stopped advertisement for children. As we know, there are already countries that banned advertisement on children under twelve such as Quebec, Sweden and Norway.
