Recommended: How does social media affect romantic relationships

Relationships may slip, but if it is meant to be, it will not fall off. When times get hard in a relationship, couples tend to find ways to fix everything. Often couples take advice from technology and social media. Adolescents do not allow technology and social media to encourage the use of sexting as a resolution. Sexting may seem like it has managed relationships or show how committed a person is to a partner, but in many cases, self-esteem can decrease, nudes can get exposed, and negative comments can be received from outsiders.
Adolescents believe sexting is a way to enhance a relationship or a way to prove commitment. Sexting can be a way to enhance and prove commitment, but it is not the safest way. “Nearly one in five who received …show more content…

Sexting has negative outcomes such as “making someone feel dirty or ashamed” for what they sent (Dir and Clyde). Females report more negative outcome experiences associated with sexting (Dir and Clyde). Females experience more negative outcomes because in most cases the females are the senders. Sending obscene messages can make farfetched desires of a sexual partner (Hertlein 8). One partner’s self-esteem may be affected after the partner realizes the other partner has a set image of them and cannot think of nothing but the sexy picture that was sent. The partner will begin to think “why does he or she only like the freaky side?” Sexting is a risk that is not worth taking. In many cases, when someone’s nudes get exposed the person usually try to commit suicide. Someone’s life is not worth losing over a nude. Spend more time with each other. Partners can choose a place where both partners can have fun. Even if it is something one partner does not like, the partner should just try it. Try showing each other off to prove commitment. Take advantage of social media. If the partners do not have social media, then try trusting each other with personal things like phones, bank cards, etc. Keep the relationship problems between the two partners. The partner should not run to Pam, Sam, and Cathy every time something happens. Learn how to appreciate one another always, not just when times get hard. All a relationship need is love, time, commitment, and a little fun here and there.
To sum it all up, adolescents make smart decisions. Studies have shown that people who sext have either committed suicide or have been cyberbullied once before. Sexting can affect futures. The internet and therapists will encourage it, but do not settle for that solution. Sexting can lead into a hole a person cannot get out
