Summary of the book The book that I reviewed for this assignment is Jab, Jab, Jab Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World that is written by Gary Vaynerchuk. In the book, Vaynerchuk uses a lot of real businesses’ examples to demonstrate some successful or failed digital marketing strategies. He also focuses on the usage of the 5 top social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Tumblr), which are commonly used by marketers; in addition, he also comes up with some predictions on other growing platforms like LinkedIn, Google+, Vine, and Snapchat. When the author explains his thought on planning social media marketing strategies, he refers to boxing competitions. I thought managing social media is just like managing individual’s personal social media account, update your post and status regularly, tweet interesting posts, and pin the graphic that you like; and we can use some social media administration tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, and Social Scheduler to deliver the same message to multiple platforms by a few clicks. However, after reading the book, I feel think that is a big mistake. There should not be any formula that can fit all social media platforms. Although we must tell a consistence story about our brand personality, we must not use the same language or message all over the digital world. We must adjust our strategy and context to respect different customers and platforms. Marketers must monitor the trend on growing platforms, the nuances that differentiate those platforms, and hot topics that people are talking about and engaging in; thus, they can jab their customers probably and have a powerful hook that lead to profitable
