My Reflection Of Leadership: My Approach To Leadership

As the semester draws to its conclusion, I reminisce about all I have learned in this Leadership class and how it has drastically change my perspective of what a leader is. Before this class, I would have never believed there were theories associated with the concept of being a leader. However, after finishing this course I have spent the last couple of days contemplating what theories best represent my leadership style right now, as well as what theories I hope to embody as a future leader to accomplish my goals. In addition, I have provided my personal definition of what a leader is and how it relates to the values and assumptions in my life and in class.

I believed the best way to mobilize followers was by stimulating their participation, and letting them know they were an important part to the team, and their participation was necessary to accomplish our common goal, which was to get Al Lawson elected to U.S. Congress. It was important to me to let my followers know that without them we would not have been able to win the election. I enjoyed working for the campaign, and even though I worked over 80 hours’ week it never felt like work because I loved what I was doing and the people I was working with. I tried my hardest during my time with the campaign to be open minded to everything, I wanted to learn as much as possible from my followers as well as my supervisor. This experience was a perfect time to put my leadership qualities to the test but it was also a great learning experience to help mold me into a stronger and more accomplished leader.
