Today’s job market is a very competitive place especially in this technological age, with jobs involving a lot of technological know-how such as network management and computer programming floating around, it is not enough to only have those skills, employers want a more rounded individual as they will bring more to the table as an employee. Being able to communicate is a very critical aspect in the work environment, being able to communicate in context is even more so. The five contexts of communication according to McLean would be: Intrapersonal Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Group Communication, Public Communication, and Mass Communication (McLean, Business communication for success, pg 23-26). Sometimes this monologue is positive, sometimes negative, and other times it’s neutral due to the fact that you are pondering about a topic that popped into your head. Another form of intrapersonal communication would be making mental notes. The voice in our heads is a reflection of us, so the cultural upbringing a person has plays a pivotal role on how we perceive things. A more specific example of this was when a customer came in extremely irate, I played one out a scenario where I calmly ask the customer what the problem was and everything was handled professionally, and another scenario where I let my emotions take over and I lashed out angrily. Using the voice in my head allowed me to successfully avoid a rather big problem and let me continue my day as usual. The second context of communication would be Interpersonal Communication, which is a one on one conversation. Mass communication is done through social media. Examples of famous social media where messages are sent every second of the day would include: Television, Facebook, Twitter, Email, Snapchat, and many more are being made. Springing off of the most popular form of communication in this day and age, the most appealing form of communication to me would be mass communication. We live in the digital age where everything and everyone is online. It is by far the easiest way to put your name out there and expose yourself to the world. Everyone either has some form of social media or knows someone with ties to some social media. Even without trying a message posted on popular media sites would reach a much larger audience than a speech will due to the sheer number of those who will be exposed to the initial message.
On the other end of the spectrum, the least appealing form of communication is public communication as it is being phased out and it is seen as a much more formal way to address an audience. The initial turnout to a rally where a speech is being held would only be as much as the venue would allow for, i.e. maximum amount of people a stadium can hold would be one thousand people, where as if the same speech was broadcast on television or advertised on Twitter or plastered all over Facebook walls, the number of people aware of the event would
