Why I Chose Nursing Essay

I initially chose to pursue nursing, because I would like to help others by making them feel better when they become ill. Another reason is that I would be able to improve my knowledge in the science field while helping others. Being able to invest my time to helping others brings me a great satisfaction. At first, I wasn’t aware of the different areas that the nursing field had until I did a thorough research on each area. When I say different areas, I refer to a Registered Nurse (RN), a Certified Nurse (CN), or a Obstetrics and Gynecology Nurse (OB GYN). Nursing is such a broad field, but with different options. Although, I still don’t know what my main focus will be in the nursing field. I just know I want to pursue a career in nursing.

Volunteering is a wide spectrum of services a person can do to help others without expecting anything in return. I’ve been able to improve my communicational skills through volunteering by interacting with different people. It’s important to be able to interact and understand a person's emotions and concerns. Some of the volunteer work I’ve been doing for the past couple years is Special Needs Dance. Volunteering to help organize the dance for the special ed students is very important to me because not only am I bringing an enjoyable experience to kids from all surrounding Gresham high schools, but I am also interacting with incredible kids who inspite of facing daily struggles have a lot to offer. Aside from volunteering at the Special Needs Dance, I have also been involved with the organization Northwest Children’s Outreach. Northwest Children's Outreach is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supplying necessities to parents for their children. Through this organization, I packaged clothing for foster kids, which really increases my eagerness to help
