We all think we know what is best for ourselves individually with regards to eating and diet. Certainly every individual is different and every situation is unique, but there is some agreement in the world community over what is considered food that's "good for you" and food which should only be eaten in small amounts if not at all. So the question remains what is nutrition and which foods are considered the best for most people.

Nutrition Health Food Basics: The central thing to a healthy diet isn't even a food at all; it's water. Dairy often is something which people have a harsh reaction to if not a full allergy to. If you begin drinking a lot of milk, eating yogurt or something like that and you begin having violent reactions to it you should stop and get tested.

Like vitamins you should get your minerals through diet rather than through supplements. Fats: You might do a double take when you see this but yes even we need to have fats in our diet. A good mixture of saturated and unsaturated fats is a good idea. The type of food you get your fats from matters too so don't think that you just have carte blanche to do what you will. Proteins: Proteins are broken down into amino acids and help repair muscles, keep your red blood cell count high, and make tissue among many other things. Protein can be found in poultry, fish, milk , cheese, eggs, meats and so much more.

Nutrition Health Food Pyramid: The infamous USDA Food Pyramid will give you an idea of some of things we should be eating and really how far off we are. The pyramids bottom with 6-11 servings per day is the bread, cereal, rice, and pasta group. Right above that is the vegetable group with 3-4 servings and the fruit group with 2-4 servings. Still one more level up is the milk, yogurt, and cheese group with 2-3 servings and the meat, poultry, fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts group, also with 2-3 servings.
