The ancient civilization of Egypt was located northeast of Africa. It ran along the Nile valley. The life and culture of ancient Egypt centered around the Nile river and the fertile land along the river. The Ancient Egypt civilization lasted for more than two-thousand years from 2575 BC to 332 BC. Egypt had a government specifically centered around bureaucracy. Bureaucracy is a system of government which includes departments and levels of authority. The most important of all Egyptians was the pharaoh who was the king of Egypt and ruler of lower and upper parts of Egypt and all the people that had resided there. Hereditary rule was also a part of how the government functioned by any family member that was born into a royal family, would then be the next ruler when the time would’ve come. Then the priests and the scribes were the religious and literary folk witch made up the middle part of the pyramid. The bottom of the pyramid consisted of the peasants and the farmers and they were the suppliers of food and did the daily work. The Egyptians were polytheistic, which meant they believed in many gods and goddesses. The pharaoh was also seen as a god due to his position of power. Their beliefs in afterlife led them to the practices of mummification of bodies, a way to preserve the bodies for burial. The gods were worshipped in the temples and the temples were run by priests with religious purpose. The civilization of ancient Egypt had some great achievements. Pyramids were built and used as tombs for pharaohs and their royal family so they could be together. The sphinx, another great achievement of Egypt, was built to guard temples and tombs of the dead. Hieroglyphics were used as a way for the Egyptians to communicate through pictures and symbols from their own alphabet. They were also fairly advanced in mathematics, which was used for many of the
