Veterans day means a day for us to thank the ones who have served in the military and war. Sacrificing every moment of their lives to defend our country. The Veterans have a significant importance everywhere. Whatever the reason is for them serving our country we should appreciate them for all their work. Veterans day was created because World War I ended . Fighting and wars did not end and are still going on and there are still Veterans out here today. Veterans day is a day to celebrate ones who were in war. Not to be confused with Memorial day , memorial day is when we celebrate the ones who died serving. The pride shines through, the pride of serving ones country, and the dedication to protect other peoples freedom even it if requires paying the ultimate price. These men and women give their lives to give us our freedom. As a one of the many individuals that they are protecting it is vital that we see that pride and appreciate where it comes from.
Every US citizen all have something in common; freedom. Most Americans go throughout their whole personal life, whether it be work, school, or other activities, never questioning, ”How do I have the opportunity to be able to do these things?” We instead ask and worry about other things, and don’t take time to acknowledge how we are able to have agency in our decisions of everyday life. The First Amendment allows US citizens to have privileges that don’t exist in some countries, like freedom of speech, religion, and the right to petition. Likewise, this amendment is unique to the United States of America, and no other country in the world has as many freedoms as the US. Because of these exclusive rights, we must protect them from being taken away. This is why the US has a military; to protect the freedoms exclusive to America. This is why we have Veterans’ Day; to celebrate the veterans of war who fought and put their lives down to keep their land free. This essay will go over why we should celebrate our country’s warriors, and it will talk about what veterans give up to protect their country, how their personal lives change, and how they affect our community/country.
Veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder need to receive better care, because post traumatic stress disorder is curable, damages relationships, and veterans made many dramatic sacrifices. The health care for veterans needs to be more easily accessible.
I chose the easy route of interview my grandpa (Dean Randel) who served in World War II as flight deck operator that signaled the aircrafts and got them ready for flight. He was station in San Diego on the USS Wisconsin which was of course a aircraft carrier. As I grew up he always told me stories of the good times he had with buddies and just living the good life. This is a first for me to sit down one on one with him and hear about what went on. Before I could even get a word in my grandpa ask me, “Do you know how Veterans Day was brought about?” I was so shock he was into doing this that I just shut my mouth and listened. He continued by saying in 1921, an American soldier -his name "known but to God "-was buried on a Virginia hillside overlooking the Potomac River and the city of Washington, DC. The burial site of this unknown World War I soldier in Arlington National Cemetery symbolized dignity and pride for all American veterans. Similar ceremonies occurred earlier in England and France, where an "unknown soldier” was buried in each nation’s highest place of honor (I later researched and found out it was in England, Westminster Abbey; in France, the Arc de Triomphe). These memorial gestures all took place on November 11, giving universal recognition to the celebrated ending of World War I hostilities at 11 a.m., November 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). The day became known as "Armistice Day.”Armistice Day of...
The old man moved slowly over to his chair. As he started to sit down, his whole body shook. When he started to talk, the loud room became quiet. We waited silently as he explained his story of his service during the Vietnam War. He told us of his fears and the details down to the sweat rolling down his back. Then the next man spoke about his similar, but yet so different experience during his time in Iraq.
Senator Pat Toomey recently sponsored the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, this act states that the flag of the United States should be displayed, especially on Vietnam War Veterans Day. The Vietnam War was fought between the United States and North and South Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, more than fifty thousand people were killed. When the soldiers returned home there was a negative and hostile attitude towards the war and a misperception that the soldiers did not measure up to the soldiers who fought in previous wars. This unwelcoming and disdainful homecoming was very hard on most of the soldiers who had just experienced a very difficult time coming from fighting in the war. This act designates March 29 as Vietnam War Veterans Day and is the “first federal statute that specifically provides for the honoring of Vietnam War Veterans.” Due to the unpopularity of the war, the Vietnam war veterans did not receive the recognition and welcome
They use medication and alcohol for sleeping because they obsess that enemies are coming, they need more consciousness to fight back.
The American flag is a cherished and respected symbol of our country. And because it is so honored, it had a lot of rules and regulations that even though they don't have consequences, should be respected and followed. Some really important rules and flag care are: The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing, unless it is the ensign responding to a salute from a ship of a foreign nation. The flag should never be displayed with the starred blue union in the Canton down, except as a signal of distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. The flag should not be used as clothing, covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff. The flag should never have any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind placed on or attached to it. The flag should never be stepped on. In a parade, the flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle, railroad train, or boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender. When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms and should be stored folded neatly and ceremoniously. If the flag is being used at a public or private estate, it should not be hung (unless at half-staff or when an all-weather flag is displayed) during rain or violent weather...

The United States has thousands of veterans and many of them suffer from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The care for veterans must be improved. Veteran care needs to be improved because they are not getting the proper care that they need, not receiving credit for their service, and they were willing to pay the ultimate price for freedom, yet people will not pay the price of time to help them.

Please take a moment to think about war. I don't mean the general topic, imagine yourself in the middle of nowhere, a gun aimed at someone's forehead. It’s your life or theirs. What gives you the right to take someone's life? They enforce that it's for the greater good. It’s all to save people's lives, and kill almost as many as you do save. War is dark and there is no getting around that. Many people don't come back the same. Many lives have been irreversibly changed for the worse. Don't think about the collective, think about the singular. This is a mere section of a letter from a person named Thomas Harold Watts, part of a reserve, written during the first world war.
Veterans and current servers fought and continue to fight to keep this country safe and free. If it wasn’t for many soldiers that fought for our freedom against Britain, this country might be very different from today. In fact, respect needs to be given to the families as well. Their families have lost precious time with their loved ones because of them not being home. Some of these men and women will never come home because they die serving the country that they love. They don’t have to fight but that is how they show their love for our country. Their families lose out on a lot too because they have to deal with the heartache of not seeing their loved ones for months and in some cases even
