Validity in Quantitative Research
In research, validity is an important component that has to be considered to prove the strong support to the evidence. The indication that a research was done with sound proof of evidence, the right design and methods were used give a strong support to the research. Invalidity, on the other hand, is a change in the outcome (Polit and Beck 2017). Researchers must be able to prove that the research meets the purpose for which it was designed.
Study and Concern
A study on “an intervention program to promote health-related physical fitness in nurses (Yuan et al 2019). According to the study done in Taiwan nurses volunteer from five different units to participate in the research. The study had the control group ( regular nurses) and experimental group (those participating in the study). The arm of the study was to assess the effect of exercise on the well-being of nurse. For three mouths nurse in the experimental group was subjected to physical exercise. This proceeds with a physical exam that was used for screen participants. 8-10 nurses from each of the five units volunteered for the study. The use of height, weight, and physical fitness test to screen for participation, I think contradicted the purpose of the study which was to assess the effect of exercise on nurses. Nurses who may be overweight or have a health concern may therefore not fit to work on the floor if they cannot keep up with the physical activity. The study should have been open for everyone so has to have an equal strength despite the condition of the nurse. That Aspect created a bias in the study.
