A servant leader is someone who puts others before themselves. They want not only the better for others but for their community as well. My best friend, Elijah, would have to be the person closest to me who embodies a servant leader. Elijah obtains characteristics that many individuals do not have. He has always put other before himself no matter the situation. He is also very determined and can motivate everyone around him to give there 110 percent at all times. 10 characteristics a. Listening is an important quality to have to improve relationships and productivity. b. Empathy is important to have to understand the people around you. c. Healing is important when trying to help others become whole again. d. Awareness helps you look at situations in many different ways. e. At our worksite we were asked to make conversation with the residents. I had never been around anyone with Alzheimer’s before I went to Windcrest. I was surprised at the fact that many residents are unable to remember things that have occurred in their life or even a couple of hours ago. I practiced personal mastery when I was asked to take a resident outside for a one-on-one conversation. I was not dependent on others to survive this conversation, even though I was a little scared. We ended up having a great conversation and she told me everything she could remember about her family and how she came to Abilene ten years ago. Another time I used personal mastery was when I was having a conversation with a resident named, Marsha. Marsha had sever Alzheimer’s and could not even remember how her day had been that morning. I used personal mastery by explaining to Marsha it was okay not to remember
