Succeeding as an Online Student Taking online classes could be very beneficial in many ways. Many of my friends and family has earned an online degree. Many students choose this route because it is very convenient and it fits into their busy schedule. A problem that students encounter is how many classes they should take each semester. Online provides a variety of options for students to earn a higher education from certifications to a doctorate and take as many classes they would like. When I decided to return to school after ten years, I was very afraid of the traditional classroom setting. Knowing most students are younger and thinking how challenging it would be for me. I can study in my pajamas, at the kitchen table or enjoy the beautiful weather on my screened in patio. Online professors provides video lectures, notes, modules, and other materials to students in order to succeed. Online courses gives students the opportunity to plan and study around their busy schedule. Although there are dates for when assignments are due and you must follow a schedule, the flexibility to do it on leisure time is great. When I am on vacation with family, online enables me to complete course work and enjoy myself at the same time. This makes online learning a great option to balance family and work life. I wondered how I would learn from taking an online class. The discussions keeps me active and engaged in learning. I participate more online than in a classroom setting because you must respond to your peers in the discussion boards. In the classroom, it is not required to say much at all. For me online courses seems easier to concentrate. I get distracted easily and this helps me stay focus and complete a task on time. Someone once said students who take online classes does not learn half as much. I strongly disagree. I would not say students learn more, however students learn differently. I am a student who teach myself. I tend to learn more this way. There is no professor rushing through materials and one who hates when students ask questions.
