Why I Want To Attend Rutgers University

As a resident of Newark, New Jersey, the college community has always been a mainstay in my daily life. I recognized opportunities available in my backyard and commenced my educational pursuits. After receiving my Associate Degree in Sociology at Essex County Community College, I examined Rutgers University to complete my bachelorette degree. There were multiple reasons for choosing Rutgers University – Newark School of Public Affairs. One of the reasons was because of my family and friend alumnus immense experience there as they pursued their degrees at Rutgers. But even so, the benefits extend beyond just convenience. As I relished in a few online courses during my undergraduate degree, I discovered that many of the courses were conducive to my individual learning style. As a self-starter, motivated by learning, Rutgers online courses have enabled me to plan my study around my daily activities and not the other way around. Executing my work in the comfort of my home, allowed me to set my own working hours and I could log into the system at any time, 24/7. With the course material presented, the online courses offer a range of resources and tools that students require, such as uploaded videos, reading materials and simulations for students; similar to the same tools provide if they were physically in a classroom setting. Truly, what makes Rutgers online programs even more remarkable is that it allows students like me to participate in classroom discussion with others students, rather than shy away in face-to-face classroom sessions. It is for all these predominant reasons that inspired me to choose the Rutgers University – Newark School of Public Affairs of my MPA, with the inclusion of my stupendous experience as an alumnus. My life goal is to move up to a higher position as having possessing this degree will support my career path of becoming a manager or a director where I can help others, the community, and much more. Using both degrees, my MPA and my BA in Sociology, I will be able to utilize my knowledge even more not only to support and development new and innovative ideas but to look at and understand society in a bigger picture and attempting to make connections for the better good of society. Both degrees will be instrumental in that my MPA degree will give me the power to make decisions to achieve common goals, and my BA will concede me to further understand the action of people additionally to the inner workings of both the private and non-private sectors of public administration. With my 17+ plus years working in the non-public sector, I am already working in the real world with some knowledge of public administration under my belt, which makes me appreciate the coursework that I will take in the MPA program. Importantly, to say is that I believe that I will be successful in this program because I do not plan to just have a degree and not doing anything with and become another part of society desk-doers, but transform lives and places.
