Reflection Letter
Throughout the semester, it is obvious that my writing skills and quality have changed and adapted toward college classes. I found myself using stronger word choice in both essays one and two to explicitly describe the information vividly so the audience could get a better understanding of my reading and writing skills, and how to achieve the keys of success. I also found myself paying extra attention toward the development and content of my writing, making sure my ideas stay on task and support the thesis, especially for the second essay about happiness and success, and constantly looking over for grammatical and spelling issues to make my writings more genuine. With this being my first semester of college, it is necessary for me to adapt to how college professors prefer essays, journal entries and free writing to be structured to their coursework, and English 101 has been nothing but beneficial toward my development of a writer.
When the first essay was assigned, it really helped myself discover where I truly am on a spectrum as a reader and a writer. I

With an essay topic so controversial and opinionated about happiness and success, it was a struggle to structure paragraphs about the process to becoming happy or successful, and to add factual information and organize my main points into an argument claiming what success and happiness mean to any individual. It took a significant amount of time to try to perfect this essay to the best of my ability, but this essay made me learn more about the keys of success and happiness as well as get a better perception on how to structure a research essay. This essay was also a challenge as to citing my sources correctly in MLA citations in my work cited page. I presume that this will get better with time throughout this course and hopefully shouldn’t be an issue by the time the final portfolio is
I would like to start off with thanking you for having the time to review the work and effort that I have put into my English 101 Final Portfolio. In the time in class that I have had this quarter I have learned new techniques that I had not known before in writing, for example I have learned about how to build paragraphs in a correct formal way. In my work in the portfolio I hope to show how my skills as a writer have improved from the work I have done before. I plan to take the experience that I have had in this class and take it with me to help me improve as a student on other class topics. In the time that I have been in class I believe that it has helped me in a positive way to help me manage my time, along with building my confidence in writing. In this beginning of the quarter I had many challenges when it came to writing a paper and I feel that I have improved my skills when it came to writing an essay.
Writing a decent essay can be nerve racking, time consuming, and can be accompanied by many trial and errors such as an art project. First you have to generate an idea, which can be the biggest challenge of them all. Then you have to decide on what details to incorporate and the placement for it. You begin to throw colors and shapes together in hopes that it will transform into a pleasing design. This all takes time, being challenged to create artwork, whether it be an essay or a painting, in sixty minutes becomes even more nerve racking and mind boggling. After last week’s timed writing practice, I was able to experience the dreadful event of producing a piece of artwork, which in my case was to deliver an essay,
Synthesis Essay As a writer, my overall writing style has changed greatly over the years. With each paper being a trial and error experience for me each one has a different outlook and method of getting my point across to the reader. With each paper I’m constantly trying to make each one better than the last, by improving and evolving the type of tone, imagery, and even though the type of diction I use in each of my papers stays the same, that doesn’t mean the way in which I present and use it hasn’t and with that in mine it's clear that my writing style has in fact changed over the years.
I’m going to be bluntly honest with you, I am not a great writer. There isn’t any point in sugar coating the truth, especially since my writing abilities are being tested just in writing this paper. While it is obvious I am not the author of a bestselling novel that is ok because I am a business major who is pursuing a career in technology. This year has helped me achieve a better understanding of my style of writing and how I can use that for future employment. The focus of this essay is to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of my writing abilities and how that is applicable to my major.
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. Throughout my college experience I have acknowledge that
Writing for me has always been a love and hate relationship since I could remember. Depending on the subject matter that I was writing about I would enjoy it because it suited my style or I loathed it because that specific style was uninteresting and boring to me. Learning certain writing formats were absolutely the worst part about writing when I first started learning in high school. As time pushed on and I grew older I began to develop an appreciation for writing that I did not have before; which is what led me to taking Writing 101 as my first full-fledged college course. I began this course with minimal writing experience because of what I failed to retain before, but now I am a stronger writer than I could have imagined with new skill sets that enhance my professional portfolio.
Reflective Paper As an English major, writing had been one of the strengths and it was challenging. Throw it back in high school, five-paragraph essay was so long from my ideas, but now I able to have greatly opened my mind. My thoughts are more an organized and learned how to write.
Reflection Essay Introduction to Writing has helped me greatly over the past eight weeks, providing me with necessary writing skills, improving my grammar, writing mechanics, and much more. I took this course simply because my advisor recommended that I should, and it was also a requirement. Initially, I anticipated Introduction to Writing to just brush up on the writing skills I already possessed, but I must admit that I have learned a lot more than I expected to. I commenced Introduction to Writing with mere high school level writing skills, but after carefully taking this course I have learned countless, essential writing skills that enable me to write on the college level, such as, writing thesis statements, using APA format, citing sources, and using correct grammar and mechanics. The first thing I learned in Week one of Introduction to Writing was how to correctly create a thesis statement.
I register for this course without knowing what challenges or outcomes would transpire throughout the semester. Nevertheless, I understood that in order to be successful in the class it would take a great deal of determination and motivation. Of course, several of my college courses have involved some type of writing whether it is short summaries, journal keeping, research, or long topic papers. The writing assignments in the past have been fairly easy, however, this class introduces a new spectrum of writing subjects. For instance, we don’t often write letters to faculty members, doctors, or write from a different persons perspective.
On the first day of class, I was not confident in my writing. I was in honors english last year, however, I did not do too well on essays. Being that I never received an A, I assumed my writing was not as good as it should be. Now, I earned a 6, almost 7, on the 9 point scale and am beginning to feel more confident. I do feel that I have been appropriately challenge this semester. I did not find any of the assignments to be too easy. I have definitely felt challenged this year, I have learned multiple techniques that I never knew prior to taking this class. As a whole, I am happy with the experiences I was provided in this class. The last essay I wrote, I was given the opportunity to meet with Mr. Perry after school one on one for help which was extremely beneficial. Also, I appreciate the fact that Mr. Perry reads our entire essay commenting on what went wrong or suggests ways to improve it. Revising essay really helps not only my grade, but also my overall understanding of what I did incorrectly. Overall, I am extremely happy I took this class and I continue to benefit in multiple ways.
