Reflective Essay: Improving My Writing Skills

Reflection Essay Introduction to Writing has helped me greatly over the past eight weeks, providing me with necessary writing skills, improving my grammar, writing mechanics, and much more. I took this course simply because my advisor recommended that I should, and it was also a requirement. Initially, I anticipated Introduction to Writing to just brush up on the writing skills I already possessed, but I must admit that I have learned a lot more than I expected to. I commenced Introduction to Writing with mere high school level writing skills, but after carefully taking this course I have learned countless, essential writing skills that enable me to write on the college level, such as, writing thesis statements, using APA format, citing sources, and using correct grammar and mechanics. The first thing I learned in Week one of Introduction to Writing was how to correctly create a thesis statement. Prior to taking this course I did not fully know how to write a strong and effective thesis statement. There was a topic posted in Week one titled, “Getting Started with Thesis Statements”, that helped me initially, but through draft and assignment feedback, the instructor helped a lot more with writing a correct and …show more content…

I learned a lot from the quiz, it improved my grammar skills in pronoun references. There was a question on there in particular that did not sound grammatically correct, though it was. The questions or scenarios that make me think the most are always the ones that improve my grammar skills. For each week of the course that a grammar quiz was given, there were helpful sources and exercises within the course that prepared me for each of the four quizzes. Introduction to Writing has helped my grammar and mechanics skills improve to a much higher level. Grammar and writing mechanics are two of the most important writing skills to me because once I perfect the two I’ll be a much better overall
