For the spring semester, I was assigned the promotions and marketing of UMW Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams. Throughout the semester, I planned and managed various promotions and marketing techniques to promote both teams. I started off by creating match day posters with seniors of both teams while using special effects to advertise the teams in great amount through well created posters. I also took the initiative of introducing the student side and fun personalities of our athletes to the rest of the student body. I made posters that had pictures of athletes on-campus in their “student mode” and listed some fun facts about their personality and their affiliation with the sport. I learned how to specifically target the stakeholders and how I can use their decisions in order to promote the two teams. The stakeholders for tennis teams are the participants, community members, UMW administration that oversees athletics and the spectators. Keeping all of them in mind, I tailored my promotional approaches. I printed out the tennis schedule for remaining season and posted it around the University Tennis Center, where we have community members coming for morning and night clinic. The most and confidence provided by my director was incredible and I am forever grateful for that. My director understanding my other campus commitments and allowing me to work from campus was a huge help, without this I would have not been able to achieve my goals. I will never forget the friendships I have made with the teams. I thoroughly enjoyed working for the two teams, they are not only hardworking but very respectful. I believe the future interns should also create this confidence level with their director that way they can discuss any issues easily. There should be more freedom given to the interns in terms of editing/making game day posters. The interns should use various photo editing software to create the home game posters as good advertisement posters attract a lot of peoples attention. Future interns should be more creative with their promotions and marketing strategies and do a lot of research before implementing any strategies. Lastly, with the new president coming to our university the future interns should come up with ideas to invite him to various athletics events in order to introduce him with our exceptional athletics program and get his support as he and his administration
