Coaching is a way of developing your athlete’s skills, abilities, and improving there performance. I feel that coaching is a profession that comes with dealing with different types of issues before they become major problems. Coaching is a conservation among people in an organization that finds solutions that problems that may exist. During the time of coaching athletes, it can be considered as a corrective tool when you are focusing on the growth of the student-athlete in their particular sport. I feel that coaching is a positive approach for supporting athletes exploring their goals and ambitions, then they accomplish them. The transformational leadership focuses on the current and long term, emphasizes leadership growth, role-centered, works with the person in a system and context, offers a framework for thinking about leadership, depth systems psychodynamic perspective, growth happens through thinking and application, works with what is on the surface and beneath. The approach of the transactional coach is that they counsel the individual athlete, accountability of the partner, the coach puts an emphasis on their coaching skills, highly interactive and possibly directive, coaching seen as a series of sessions, the coaching sessions are structured, homework is important and the short term. The transformational coaches approach consults to the leader’s experience, thinking as a partner, the coach puts emphasis on the knowledge of people, leadership theories and practice among organizations and groups, the coaching sessions become free flowing, the insight and application is important, the length varies with the assigned task in getting them accomplished. I have learned as a former athlete and current coach that playing sports builds social skills and feeling valued of the team because it also gives you a sense of accomplishment. I feel that athletics prepares student-athletes for life, it develops the athlete to work as a team and become being a team player. I feel that it can bring out the confidence in person. With my years of coaching, it has shown me passion for working with student-athletes in my program. I have had the opportunity to see growth in all of my athletes that I coached in the past and present with the numerous of opportunities that I was able to provide for them. I focus with the athletes on communication skills, being responsible, and accountable for their actions. I have shown support to all of my past or present athletes with the goals to be the best student-athlete on and off the court. I believe that sports can offer the most universal and accessible venue in which to rejuvenate and embody the great virtues.
