INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
Quality of work-life is defined as the favorable conditions and environments of a work place that support and promote employee satisfaction by providing them with rewards, job security and growth opportunities (Chand, 2012). Sheel, Sindhwani, Goel and Pathak (2012) seem to agree with Chand’s definition as they define quality of work life as the favorable working conditions that support and enhance employee satisfaction by providing them with rewards, job security and career growth opportunities. Equally Ravichandran, Meenakshi and Walton (2013) define quality of work life as any activity which takes place at every level of an organization and seeks greater organizational effectiveness through …show more content…

Shankar (2014) describes quality of work life as the level of satisfaction, motivation, involvement and commitment individuals experience with respect to their lives at work. Khairudin, Samah,Wahat and Parsa (2014) found out that Quality of work life views the organizational environment in accordance with a wide range of needs of their employees’ wellbeing in the work place. Afsar (2014) observes that job dissatisfaction, work alienation, depraved work environment and conditions, wage inequality which are an outcome of the struggle between employees and employers as well as global crises and political, social and economic changes require enterprises to try new and innovative methods. He notes that improving the quality of work life leads to the improvement of employee’s efficiency, profit and savings of the organization. Owolabi (2015) describes quality of work life as a movement, a set of organizational intervetions, a type of work, workplace strategies, operations and environment that promote and maintain employee satisfaction with the aim of improving working conditions for employees and organizational effectiveness for
