Introduction:
It is accurate to say that communication is a vital part of everyday life. As we have discussed many times in class, communication is in absolutely everything we do. The amount of communication that takes place from day-in to day-out is often unnoticed. I for one have never thought about the importance of communication, but after working through the process needed for this assignment, it has been made clear to me that communication isn’t just dialogue between me and the people I know. It is a skill that is vital for workers to have in the workplace. Tansil had to do with people’s success in his business. It is important to know what makes people successful in the business to see how communication directly relates their performance. Without hesitation, Mr. Tansil (personal communication, October 9, 2015) pointed out that consistency is an important skill to have when talking to different people in hopes of gaining their business. Mr. Tansil (personal communication, October 9, 2015) also explained how his business is a “relationship business.” This directly relates to what we have just began to discuss in class. We have a need to create relationships, and it is clear that My Team Insurance Services, LLC has a strong need to be able to create these relationships well. The relationships made by members of My Team are crucial to the success of the business because they allow insurance agents to curtail different coverage plans to fit the specific needs of their clients. Working one on one with customers makes it easy for employers to judge an employee’s success or failure. Tansil expects potential employees to have when possibly hiring them into his business. Potential employees are expected to have strong communicational skills when walking through the door. One of My Team’s mottos is that 95% of all problems are issues of miscommunication. When hiring people with high communicational skills, these accounts of miscommunication are kept to a minimum. Employees are also expected to have a high level of honesty. This quality relates to the quality maxim of sociolinguistic knowledge. My Team employees are expected to tell the truth in all situation. Mr. Tansil (personal communication, October 9, 2015) explained that it may be hard for employees to break news to their clients, but it must be done to continue searching for the coverage they need. I asked Mr. Tansil which skills he believed could be taught in the work place or if he thought they needed to have the skill before getting the job. He explained that it would be impossible to teach his employees to have a good heart.
