Wellness Concept Paper What does it mean to be healthy? It is a question that has been posed to us repeatedly in this class. With the start of a new semester, I have given up some of my healthy habits and have had to refine my views on what it means to be healthy. My view on the concept of good health is that it is anything that allows for you to live as long and as fully as you possibly can. But what does that mean exactly for me? I can’t say for certain what that answer is to me, but I can reason how my view has changed recently. During this semester I overcommitted and took 16 credits (I had to drop one class and go down to 13). In order to do this I have to pull some long and tedious hours at my job. I often go on less than 6 hours of sleep a night and am often up before 5 am in order to finish what I need to (whether it is a project for a client or an impromptu job for my dad). I am also unable to eat even close to healthy. Because of my lack of time I find it hard to stop and cook something, or even sit down. As of right now, it is not unfair for me to see either school, or work as something unhealthy for me. However this situation is only temporary, and soon I will not be pulling long hours I am now (therefore increasing my wellness factor). Sometimes it is impossible to strive for a higher level of health and wellness, because life is messy. There are things that, as adults, we have to get done. We get those things done by giving some things up. Maybe we live within walking distance of our work, and spend all day sitting down, so we can afford our family medical bills. Maybe we give up on a meal, or some sleep, so that our business succeeds. Everything has a price, and a reward. It is up to us to decide whether or not the price is
