In the school environment, teachers face many challenges and overcome obstacles that affect student learning. As an educator, I have experienced that I touch the lives of the students in many positive ways. Students as well as the teachers experience failure at least once in their lives and it is okay because when people fail, they learn from their mistakes. For this reason, teachers need to provide opportunities where students are able to succeed and face new challenges. For instance, when teachers fail to meet their goals or fails to improve student performance, they reflect in their teaching practices and improve their teaching practices. As a teacher leader, I took initiative and called parents for a meeting regarding tutoring after school and how they can help us out reach the goal. The intervention was for students and parents to sign a contract for mandatory tutoring and parents agree about the consequences at home if their son or daughter did not follow the contract. For instance, if a student did not attend mandatory tutoring, the parent would take away the cellular phone or not let them watch television until they attend the tutoring session. This action worked great in my school and created tremendous positive social change in the community because parents participated one hundred percent. Taking this course, I have learned that I can overcome these issues and challenges by becoming more prepared, acquiring more knowledge from online courses, workshops, research, and internet sources. For instance, I face challenges with students not wanting to learn or work in the classroom and I have to find solutions to these issues establishing communications with other colleagues. For this reason, I have to be prepared with different strategies that will meet the need of these students and lead them to success. In addition, I have to create interventions to diminish these issues and ask parents for support. As an educator, I feel that I have a long way to go and improve with my instructional strategies in a learning community. There are many other issues affecting student learning.
