Generally an incorporation of the practices of teaching respect and caring, and providing a stable and stimulating classroom environment in the school will promote students’ learning. An effective teacher employs these practices jointly, is well-informed of the curriculum content, and is committed to their students learning. The role of teachers is a very fundamental and powerful position because we have a lasting impact on our students. Therefore, it is most imperative to always make judgments grounded upon what is best for my students.
Last but not least it is very important for teachers to make their students feel like with instructional and emotional support from their teacher that they will not fail. In the first article “The Journal of Educational Psychology” states that teacher-student interactions are very important and can change a students path in achievement. They suggest that when teacher-student interactions take place in a positive matter whether one on one, small groups, or the whole class, that these teacher-student interactions deliver the students with the correct support needed for their learning potential. Also, these positive interactions then can help set the student up for other positive paths in the classroom. Examples of these interactions are categorized into three realms of support: emotional, organizational, and instructional.
Of all the variables in a comprehensive literature review classroom management had the largest effect on student achievement. Therefore, teachers need to provide clear purpose and strong guidance regarding both academics and student behavior. Teachers and students need to collaborate as a team sharing concerns about the needs and opinions of others. Teachers should be aware of high-needs students and have a plethora of specific techniques for meeting some of their needs. Positive support from the parents, administration, support personnel and the community to bring about positive changes in student behavior is also necessary.
For instance, in the collaborative coaching experience, I learned to respect my colleague opinions and shared new ways on how to promote learning (Laureate Education, 2010b). Collaborative professional development helps teachers acquire new skills where they establish positive relationships with other educators. It is very critical for all schools to implement collaborative professional developments because teachers learn to respect each other’s ideas, work collaborative, and learn new skills that will definitely make a difference in student learning. Implementing collaborative professional development in schools is very important and beneficial for teachers because it affects student learning in many positive ways. One way is that teachers experience working collaborative with other educators and acquire new skills that they will model later for their students in the classroom.
The supervisor possesses the qualifications and understanding of effective practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, but the most essential and valuable role is for the instructional supervisor to provide direct assistance to teachers in order to ensure student learning for a successful school. In all of the schools I have had the opportunity to work in the successful ones had principals that provided direct assistance to their staff through mentor teachers, master teachers, team leaders, and coaching specialist. Those are the principals that I most remember and hope to become in my quest as a future
Promoting and motivating my Aides and other members of the school to maximize their skills will make a better experience for my students and the community. I started my teaching career as an Instructional Aide in a moderate to severe classroom. I could not be more thank full for the teachers I work for because they motivated me to maximize my teaching skills, and eventually become a teacher in the classroom I started as an Aide. I want to be a leader that inspire others to be teachers and be good at it. Teachers and administration have a great of power in the school environment because we can affect others’ beliefs, attitudes, and actions.
This is because that positive attitudes can establish an active emotional teaching and learning environment which is related to teacher effectiveness. Koutrouba (2012) claims that qualities and behaviors such as patience, confidence, supportiveness, optimism, respect and responsiveness are the characters an effective teacher presents. In line with this idea, Stronge (2007), Cullingford (2010) and Killen (2015) also state that effective teachers are with the features as carefulness, enthusiasm, confidence, compassion, ethic, integrity and sharing. According to Allen et al. (2013), these characters are essential for a secondary teacher to establish an emotional support classroom.
Having this strong connection with my students will help the child’s ambition to learn and come to class which is my goal. Showing my students how much I care about their education will also form a good relationship. I will do this by acknowledging their accomplishments as well as coming up with solutions when they fail. A Student-Student relationship is also important to me in order to have a positive environment in my classroom. I have realized that I have the power as an educator to promote good Student-Student relationships.
I not only want them to succeed in subjects but also grow as individuals. I plan to use the progressivism approach in my classroom because I believe that hands on education in a very effective way of learning. It helps students to get a first hand experience to see and feel what it is they are learning. I also think that working with groups in their classroom is very beneficial to students. By interacting with their peers they will learn how to share their ideas, accept others points of view and learn how to develop relationships , which is a very important part of life that will help them to succeed in their careers.
