I have never considering writing to be one of my strong suites when it came it academics, perhaps adequate at best. Especially when it came to writing on a subject based on information or statistics, however after the last few essays, not only do I have a new found confidence in my writing skills, but I’m incredibly excited to write about new and more challenging subjects. The last three essays walked me through the writing process slowly but surely, challenging me a little more each time. As I approached the next assignment I took what I had learned from the previous one and made sure to apply it to the assignment I was currently working on. When I began WRTG 101, as I previously mentioned, it wasn’t my strongest attribute as a student; …show more content…
This was our personal essay and what I consider to be the easiest of the three. Ironically, at the time I considered it to be difficult strictly base off of my lack of writing skills. Finding a topic to write about perhaps was the most difficult thing for me because there had been so many topics I could have wrote about. The phrase “less is more” couldn’t have been more appropriate for this situation. After brainstorming a couple ideas, the obvious one made the most sense to me. I chose to write about what could arguably be the most important decision I had made in my life so far. Once I had chosen a topic, the next obstacle was to put it into words that would not only make sense, but also engage the reader. I tried to spread out the timeline and I only wanted to include the most pivotal parts. Once I got I finished somewhat of an outline, I had an idea on what I wanted to write about, but nothing for sure. I was confused on how I should break down the essay. How could I identify these key points in my life that not only led me here, but also explain what I had done so far? I decided that I would begin on what I made me decide this is what I wanted to when I grew up. After that my three body paragraphs would consist of the three stages you go through when beginning your career in the Air Force; basic training, tech school, and eventually getting to your first duty station. I then decided …show more content…
The research supported cause and effect essay. This was the assignment that challenged me the most as a writer based off the amount of research that was required and length of the essay. Like the compare and contrast assignment, finding a topic to write on wasn’t as difficult as it was before. I had success writing about a topic that was business oriented so I didn’t want to stray away from that while writing this one. I chose to write about Social Media Advertising and how business may potentially gravitate more towards that method in the future. My body paragraphs consisted of the continued reliance on mobile devices, the increase in Social Media Advertising revenue, and the impact of Social Media Advertising on the consumer. Once again I had a plethora of information to reference not only through my own found research, but what I found on the UMUC Library. I made sure to mention statistics, patterns, and how everything impacts the businesses or consumers. Once I completed my body paragraphs I began my conclusion by restating my opening and restating my examples. Then I closed it out by making a strong prediction on what may happen in the future if Social Media Advertising continued on the same trend it’s currently
The process for this essay was longer and more complicated. We were required to compare the feudal system to our school district. Also, we had to research two different systems and compare their similarity and differences. The process of this essay was more difficult, but the writing was much easier than the Ad Analysis. Although they both were the same type of essay, I knew more about this topic and that made the essay smooth and easier to write. As I worked I remembered all the mistakes I made in my first essay, knowing I could not make those mistakes again. Preparing more and reading more about my topic enabled my essay to be better than the first
With theses, I never knew how to properly tie together my entire idea of the essay into a sentence or two. In my first essay titled
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
A defining moment in my life was when I decided that I wanted to be an athletic trainer. I chose this field because when I finish my athletic career, I wish to stay in the athletic field. For me there is no better job than one I can interact with athletes and help them prevent injuries. Knowing my career path early helped me lay out my academic goals, but no goals are accomplished without challenges arising.

Over the years of my schooling, I have gradually developed my writing preparation to help me become a better writer. I continue to find ways to improve my writing abilities by working on my weaknesses and by incorporating the feedback I receive from my peers and my instructors into my essays. At times, I still struggle when preparing to start my essay, but with precise and organized planning and obtaining the help of others, I am certain that I will become more proficient in my writing
I loved your conclusion paragraph; however, make sure to indent your paragraph in order to lessen the confusion of where the conclusion paragraph is. I liked how you used the questions from the introduction paragraph in your conclusion paragraph because we either found a new meaning of hope, or our belief of hope strengthened. Furthermore, you added more questions that tied in with your body paragraphs, great
NOTE: This isn’t even close to how I would like the essay to be laid out. I’m just writing paragraphs and eventually I will get them in an order I like them and revise.
In essence, multiple essays have been formulated during the duration of Composition 1. These essays have taught me an important lesson about my writing, failure is acceptable in order to grow. On the other hand, I made a vital discovery last year that I craved to study journalism and advance further in that field after college. From taking journalism classes, to blogging in my spare time, to always getting an A on my papers, I had the assumption there was no room to improve. Ironically, I was mistaken. Therefore, because of the rigorous essay work each essay brought, I learned more about how to write different pieces and grow from my “failure”.
Add words to any section, and you run the risk of making that part of your essay too heavy and too large. If you find yourself stuck in this position, then try to add a new point that supports your hypothesis and gives your essay a little more depth. If you cannot do this, then go over your other sections and see if there are more ideas, examples and citations you can add. Look especially hard for ways you can produce more evidence for the ideas and facts you placed in your essay. Make The Overly Weighted Section More
I quickly learned that my knowledge and/or background of writing was cut short. Introduction, body and conclusion was the foundation of all essays I have ever wrote but our first writing project showed me that I need to break out of that habit fast. Writing project one also taught me that I need to be a more creative writer. Once we received our grades for the essays the site of the C stopped me like a deer in headlights. Not only have a never failed a writing assignment, but I also was unsure how to approach the essay to improve it. With the proper feedback and assistance that I received, I realized my most
It also demonstrated the types of transitions that could be used and how to group topics and statements together. I had a difficult time understanding how to write a conclusion in multiple paragraphs because I was always taught it was one paragraph. So, having an example of multiple conclusion paragraphs was very
As I reflect back on these last eight weeks of class in this semester, I’ve to realize that a writing process is an art form, depictions of words in expression of emotion creating words in actions to reveal the elements of visual images, storytelling. I've also learned to become a good writer you must challenge your confidence in your individual creative mind, first by brainstorming a topic of discussion, analyze in structure viewpoints of that topic, in also by doing research in finding references points. I can say one of my biggest challenges in my Illustration, was my thesis statement, especially when it came to expressing my personal viewpoints in experience about my brother life, when it came to my narrative essay, it was tough and
The theme talked about one individual already having her destiny chosen for her. In order to start this essay I had to come up with a hook, a theme about the book, find evidence from the book to back it up, and a counter argument to show that I can protect my argument. I formed my essay in TIEDIED format and wrote a timed essay to know how long it would take to write my essay. The leadership skill I used the most was Thinking Critically by finding evidence in the boot, connecting the evidence to my theme, coming up with a way to engage the reader and finally thinking of a counter argument. Without a doubt, there will be many essays in college, I am even using these skills in my Common application questions by finding evidence to support the prompt I am writing about. In addition, I used the “Engaged Scholar” Core value by meeting the deadlines each assignment is due and protecting my argument from my counter-argument with evidence and
The greatest difficulty that I came across doing the first essay was retracing the past, retracing the sadness. Having to bring back sad memories that made my life terrible at the time. Doing the essay, I learned that I have gone through a lot of crap. I was sinking in quicksand and now I stand on the quicksand like it is rock solid. I am proud of myself. I was able to turn my life around and be the person that I am today. I might have the potential to be a good writer someday. People compliment on my writing skills every now and then when I write something long. That makes me feel like a real student. I say that because an old History teacher of mine used to tell kids to be students when they were not doing their work.
