My Philosophy Of Nursing

A philosophy of nursing is a statement of values , beliefs , concepts and principles that reflect the ideals, conventions and attributes of an organization and it’s membership . (Kikuchi & Simmons 1993) My personal philosophy of nursing is very complex, it is based on my beliefs about why I became a nurse, my strengths, my ideals and past experience that shaped me as a nurse. It also includes the many different nursing theories and paradigms that influence how I provide care to patients. In addition I must also include the ever-changing technology of health care that causes me to often re-examine how I provide care. In addition the changing world of technology and how it effects the delivery of care .The dynamics relationships I have with my oncology patients can greatly influence me and sometimes effect or interfere with providing exceptional patient care. All these factors combine to help shape my personal nursing philosophy.

It can be as simple as realizing that the patient is not their usual animated or talkative selves or that they disheveled appearance is not the norm for this patient, or it can be more complex such as the patient who is showing cognitive changes during her visit that may indicate she has metastatic disease to the brain.
