Medical technologists are one of many exciting and rewarding medical laboratory careers. Medical technologists analyze samples given like, blood, tissue and bodily fluids using special equipment and instruments. They determine blood types, drug levels and look for bacteria or infections. Physicians rely on the information provided by medical technologists to determine the diagnosis and treatment of their patients. The educational requirements vary depending on the state. A medical technologist in most cases must complete a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited program before they are eligible to sit for the exam through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Following this certification I plan to apply within the hospital I currently work in. Maybe with 15 years laboratory experience in addition to BSHS and certification I can land a management position. If that happens great I will work in that position and go on for my Masters in genetic counseling. If I do not land a management position I will be happy with an MT position and still pursue my Masters. I feel KU Career Services will be very helpful for me in obtaining my career. They have the experience, knowledge and connections to help aid in finding the right position for me. They will assist me in organizing my resume and cover letter to help me connect with the appropriate employers. I will also get the assistance I will need to prepare for interviews using their effective strategies. In 5 years I see myself graduated with my BSHS from Kaplan University with a full time position in a hospital laboratory as a Medical Technologist or a laboratory manager. In 5 years I will also be taking classes pursuing a Masters in Genetic
