Medical Assistants are the ones that the patient sees first; they are the face of the healthcare facility. For the past 10 years I have worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I love my job but I want to do more. A medical assistant job is not for everyone a good medical assistant has to have patient to deal with the different type of attitude and behaviors you have to deal with. This paper will cover some topics that I feel are the best qualities that a medical assistant should have. Medical Assistant Overview of the profession Medical assisting is one of the nation's fastest growing careers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Medical assistants perform a vast number of daily duties administrative and some clinical tasks. Medical Assistant are the glue that keeps the various healthcare facility running smoothly. There will be a time when a medical assistant may have to answer the telephone, greet patients, fill out medical records and update them as needed, schedule appointments and handle correspondence and billing. On the clinical side, medical assistants often are the people who take medical histories, prepare patients for examination, assist the doctor during appointments and perform basic laboratory tests, along with other clinical responsibilities. What a medical assistant does will depend on the office where she or he works, state law and the needs of the assistant's employer. Education Requirements Medical assistants typically graduate from postsecondary education programs, and employers may prefer to hire assistants who have completed these programs. In five years I plan to start working on my Bachelor of Science in Health Science Degree. In five years I would’ve gotten the experience and knowledge I need to move forward in the facility. Conclusion Lastly, Medical assistants are of great help to the physicians they work for. They make it possible for the practitioners to be effective in their practice. Just like all the other practitioners in the medical field, the medical assistants are expected to maintain high standards in the field. For the medical assistants this will include acting on the instructions given by the practitioners and adhering to the code of ethics as set by AAMA. The medical assistants are also expected to make sound decisions when faced with medical dilemmas. All this should be focused on giving the patient quality care.
